Beautiful conversion! Very classy. I wish I was in Oz to be able access all the great kit you have there, warm dry weather, and lots of open space!

Nice job. I’m building a rooftop room like this out of second hand stuff the canvas sourcing is daunting. This is the nicest one I have seen.
@headspacecampers2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The canvas is by far the biggest challenge we faced during the prototyping stage. It's also a dying trade, so finding quality canvas makers is more difficult than we first anticipated! Best of luck with your build. We'd be keen to see what you come up with if you're building it purely out of recycled goods :)

Would it be available in the UK? I am planning a conversion and looking at the various pop-top roofs available For true overlanding, outside Australia, internal latches and security would be the number one criterion. Additional weight of the roof conversion would be number 2. I like the Mulgo and Headspace, but Mulgo will not ship to the UK. Alucab will not consider internal latches despite a request X vision X ( good price, design, roll cage compatibility ,perhaps currently the the best roof for UK/ Europe conversions) , ex-tec( good price, design), Entreq( way too expensive) - German roofs are good but do not open high enough. Although they are TauV approved. Retaining the beautiful Alpine windows of the Defender is a big consideration, something the Alucab does not do and makes it look boxy The hydraulic lift assist on the Alucab and the option to add an additional stronger strut would be important too. The slatted bed, light weight mattress are other considerations. The only real UK based Poptop roof other than dormobile is AW4X4- steel frame and looks good but might be too top heavy I love the design of the Headspace campers roof. I think that there is a potentially large market in Europe and the UK. Importing it from Oz and paying shipping plus 20% VAT makes it uneconomical. I’d like the Aussie roofs to be available in the UK/ Europe so that there is a better choice.

I don't own a Defender but if I had one this is what I would want. Super clean. Question as a consumer. If I were to a Discovery so I could stand up inside (especially bad weather) why not have the locking mechanisms on the inside? You could park in the rain, open it and it would eliminate the need for the lock yeah? Just curious, looks awesome!
@headspacecampers2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback! We offer our customers internal latches as the current design allows us to place them on the inside of the vehicle, but it would mean sacrificing the two trap doors so the canvas would be visible from the inside. While we think it looks neater having the lock down catches on the outside, this is a simple modification that is available to anyone at no extra cost. Feel free to check out our new roof conversions coming soon here: headspacecampers.com/products.

um, well, don't want to be nitpicking but... "low profile, curved, light weight"? The one we have on our Defender and a couple of other makes seem to better your design in many aspects (e.g. our frame is 45kg, it doesn't protrude at the front and look better on the rear, too). External latches are easy to break. What I DO like is what you did with fabric - the large windows and overhangs 👍
@headspacecampers2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback Frank! Our goal is to offer the best possible products to our customers, so we'd love to see photos of your roof conversion and compare it to ours in terms of durability and functionality. There are a few points you need to consider when drawing this sort of comparison. Is your 45kg roof conversion also ADR compliant and transferable? Is your foam mattress lightweight? Are you able to stand on top of your bed to get changed, or do you have to push the bed frame into the ceiling and change downstairs? We personally haven't seen many roof conversions lift to 42º. We'd also prefer you not to comment on the durability of our latches until you see them in person, as there is a reason they cost $92USD each! In any case, we appreciate your feedback and we're open to suggestions on how to improve our Defender 110 roof conversion.
@frank-lr2 жыл бұрын
@@headspacecampers Hi. Agree that there are many points to consider. Before we got ours (x-vision-x de, Drexl de) we compared five or six makes that were avaliable at the time and have since seen a few more. They are very popular in Germany and Europe. The German yt channel '4x4 passion' has a number of people presenting their Defenders, or search yt for 'Defender roomtour'. Also the UK forum defender2 net had a recent discussion titled 'pop tops other than alucab' with load of different makes. Sorry, yt doesn't allow to post links here :/ As for the latches I meant vandalism and theft, not durability. Some of the pop tops have internal locking mechanisms. Also external latches and gas struts (e.g. alucab) limit the option to glue a channel rail to the lower frame. I did this on each side and made some lightweight tarps to protect from sun and rain without the gap that awnings usually leave between the fixing and the roof.
@headspacecampers2 жыл бұрын
@@frank-lr thanks for clarifying! The pop top you chose in the end has a very unique design and it's something we haven't yet come across in Australia. We did a fair bit of research on some of the links you suggested prior to finalising our design in order to fill the gap in the market while maintaining a factory look as much as possible. Headspace was obviously the biggest consideration for us, in addition to maximising the bed width and designing a wrap-around awning for the ultimate weather protection. Our external latches are lockable and we also offer internal latches at no extra cost for those who prefer the internal locking mechanism. We'll upgrade our design as we see fit later on down the track, but we appreciate your feedback!

The comment "there wasn't something on the market that.." triggered my far to short a comment. With the icurus in such wide circulation and with such critical acclaim, I think your offered video to explore the differences between the two and I guess specifically how yours is superior or in ways better thought out, that would be a very valuable piece of marketing. As it stands yes. I would very much like to convert to this style of roof top sleeper. And I appreciate your local. So I'm subscribed and awaiting more. Thank you for your reply.

@@sprocketdiver190 no problem at all and thanks for your suggestion! The main points of difference between the two are height and weight, headspace, place of manufacture and reversibility. We'll upload more videos as soon as we get the opportunity to film some more content, so stay tuned!
