Rudy, excellent tutorial. I love your humor. Making stitch pattern samples is an excellent idea for any upholsterer, especially guys and gals just getting into the trade. It familiarizes the upholster with the stitch techniques and gives customers a portfolio of patterns offered. Not everyone is going to sit and do an entire '65 Cadillac bench seat with white pearl vinyl in capitone. But do a 24"x24" sample board and the customer will know you can do it.

Hey I have to say to everyone saying this is great, yes it’s great for the average DIY person. To be a professional you should measure out diamonds every time to ensure they’re square. Doing it the way done in the video will result in uneven diamonds. If you want a stencil for a certain size measure then draw them out and punch holes just big enough to get your marking tool through to mark the points of each diamond them you can correctly repeat the diamonds each time by connecting the dots. Also not every job need the same sized diamonds, you also should be asking the customer their preference. And no you should still wait for the glue to set at least a little, they call it contact adhesive because you’re supposed to let it dry and then press it together, if you don’t the bond will not be as good. Sorry not sorry I went to school for this and have been doing it for a decade since. You want nice looking diamonds do not use this method.

I have two round top bar stools to do, so now I know how to get the pattern centered. Will probably wail until my new machine comes in next week. as a technical tip ... you should just focus at the distance of the table and turn off auto-focus. You only need it when you're moving w the camera. Otherwise..? It's a liability.

I do like the 1/2" scrim as it adds definition to the work piece and some extra comfort if using the medium density product. When making a metric comment, like 1 mm left or right, remember that 25.4 mm = 1". Move the decimal point one space to the left and you have 2.5 cm. This is a measure Dr's use in length of stitches to a healing wound. So add the multiples from (example) 5 cm, you have 25.4 X 2 = 50 mm or 2 inches. It is not hard. Folk in 2023 that are younger than age 60, may not know the a peanut farmer in the Whitehouse tried to move school to teach metrics only. But during Middle East conflicts wanted everyone to drive slower, so instead of 70 MPH, highway signs were change to 55 MPH. When Jim Cater left, Ronald Reagan had it changed back. Cars, truck and semi tractors were not gear to run efficiently at 55, but 70. All the land was happy! Otherwise, we would never had Sammy Hagar in Van Halen sing "I can't Drive 55". and history was made. So, if you buy a 1980 motorcycle, the speedo may top at 55 MPH, that's why. Great video and excellent lesson. Besides, the people in our neighborhood can drive 25 MPH, but 55. They are all more important to me because my car insurance goes up due to speed, wrecks and value...so wear seat belts because glass doesn't taste very good! DK, ASE Master Tech since 78.

Don’t get me wrong I love your channel, but why are you holding back on sharing what’s the best glue to use? In upholstery using the best glue is a must. Especially if you’re going to be putting leather on wood, metal and plastic. I get the feeling like you’re holding back. Like with the double diamond technique. I’m pretty sure there’s some kind of math to it that you didn’t reveal. If you’re going to help your viewers help them don’t steer them wrong. And I’m only saying something because I’m a KZbin junky and I know and watch all the upholstery channels and I can tell you in this video your holding back. Which is cool and you have that right to do so, but smart people like me will catch it and stop watching. That’s just my opinion. But here’s the link to the best glue I know of for upholstery. MAKE SURE ITS THE WHITE/BLUE CAN ONLY rochfordsupply.com/products/weldwood-contact-adhesive
@oldschoolautoupholstery Жыл бұрын
Hello Paper, Thanks for hanging in there with me. I never hold back. Maybe sometimes in the making of the video I may have forgotten to say something. I have several videos where I mention that I only use Weldwood contact adhesive for everything because I get a lot of people asking about glue over and over again in the comments. As far as drawing out the diamonds, I did show how make a template. No rocket science formula or math there. Please keep liking and watching!
