ABOUT
I know how much you enjoy learning Russian with music and in this lesson, we’ll break down a legendary Russian song, Katyusha. During WWII, Russian people went crazy for this song. Katyusha is a diminutive of the female name Katya or Ekaterina. The song is about a girl longing for her lover who joins the army and is sent to a distant outpost.
We’ll go through every single line of the song, you'll see the lyrics in English and Russian, and I'll slowly pronounce each line in Russian a couple of times. Thanks alot and please make a such a like that for "смуглянка" .I think every thing was pretty much better in past , American old songs , Russian old songs ,french old songs ,I. Couldnt find better of them in after 1990s . Nowadays the most musical programs could have been listened just for one time .

Пусть он землю бережет родную This is the hardest part for me. I stopped the video and kept researching, thinking a lot... I'd mirror translate it to Hungarian as A földjét mentse meg, a szülőt. (szülőföldjét) It kinda sings that. He shall save his land, the parent/mother/father/family-(land). It is in no way logical in Hungarian to say it like that :D But at least now I understand.

I know, the reverse word order is very confusing but keep in mind that this is a poetic way of saying this, and it´s common only in songs in poetry. In a regular conversation, I would say "пусть он бережёт родную землю".

Well, this is in the highest degree helpful. I used to be helpless in Russian, and it is still the case that with me the command of Russian is очень плохой. **BUT** I have gone far enough to be able to follow song lyrics, and at just the right moment I have found your vid. - The context of this song is of course sad, calling dark times to mind (in my case, two family corpses from the epoch of the war, more or less linked to the Red Army, and then decades of exile in Canada). But a beautiful song it is. I am now looking forward to examining your other song offerings. I will have to see whether you have already done the ballad of Stenka Razin. - Gratefully, Toomas Karmo, in south-central Estonia

Because it´s not word by word translation, sometimes it´s difficult to translate from one language to another and preserve the same sentence structure

Why is the г being pronounced as a в?

Whenever you encounter the Russian letter combinations, “его” or “ого”, and the letter that precedes the letter “г” is not stressed, the letter “г” is pronounced as a “в”. Otherwise, the “г” is pronounced as a “г”.
