Siento que no pudieras venir a mi fiesta. Nosotros nos divertimos mucho. ('Poder' can also START a sentence that ends with the subjunctive mode in its meaning of 'may'. Eg., Puede que no llegue temprano. (I may not arrive early). 'Poderse' is similarly used to indicate possibility).
