Thank you so much for this channel. I've just discovered it and I've truly been inspired. I'm a self-taught Spanish speaker (I live in London and have self-taught to conversational fluency) with a desire to use Spanish to teach the Bible/the Christian faith. I read my Bible daily in Spanish and have been thinking of how to use my platform to combine both my faith-based videos with the Spanish language. Me discovering your channel is just a testimony to the fact that our content is needed! You have NO idea how much this has blessed me! Muchísimas gracias por su obediencia.

@Bithiah 🙏🏼 Hey! Thanks for asking. Before I get into the practicality, I'll say that I'm still learning, it's honestly a daily intentional decision I make and learning is a continous process. I learn contentment in each season whilst I strive for growth. Okay, now on the practical side... 1) I pray asking God to help me on the journey i.e. for Him to reveal things to me and help me remain consistent with the language 2) I use tools like a native spanish speaker would. The most common one I started with was YouVersion Bible app and turned it to Spanish only. I started reading topical Bible plans (that were actualy relevant to me) so that #1 I would remain consistent, and #2 so that I'd be learning vocab that I'm likely to use. Another reason I started with this is because I found the raw Bible text to be a bit too difficult for me to grasp from the get go (since it was a whole new langauge and I wasn't familiar with Spanish Biblical vocab). Using these reading plans also meant that the reading text was long enough to challenge me, (i.e. the devotional text before the Bible scriptures) but short enough where it wasn't an overly overwhelming goal. For context, I started this process of learning to read the Bible in Spanish at an upper beginner/early intermediate level. So to begin with, even though it was hard to grasp and understand all the context, I could understand some things. When I ran into words/sentences I didn't understand, I would re-read the sentence over and over again to see if I could make sense of it. When I still couldn't understand I would google "Que significa [the unknown word]". My reason for doing this is I wanted to give myself a chance to THINK and figure it out vs the 'lazy way' of Googling too quickly, that way the learning would stick. By reading the Google definition, and/or looking at Google images to give me an idea, I would then guess what I think it means based on trying to understand the context and then use a translator tool (I use DeepL) to verify if I was right or wrong. This process sometimes took an hour [in total] to go through the devotional for the day. As I read more and more (because remember it's relevant to my life and I've prayed for God to help me), the process became much quicker and I didn't have to 'look up' so much. Sometimes, the Holy Spirit would even translate a word for me just to encourage me and banter with me on he journey (to show me He was there). In terms of getting more comfortable with the raw Bible text after reading devotionals, I would read the same verse in many different translations. The YouVersion app has a 'compare' function and I would just scroll down the list of versions to give me better understanding. Outside this reading time, I would/am also studying the language itself. My holistic method of study is to focus on input (listening and reading) and output (writing and speaking). Depending on the season I'm in/busyness of life, I am stronger in some areas than others 🤣 The holistic combination of the key learning skills helped things progreessivley sink in and I have grown over time. Here are some examples of how I would use these key language skills and the Bible: * Listening and reading - Youversion app... Once I've read the scriptures on my own, I later use the audible function so I can hear the Scriptures read to me. I also watch spanish sermons (without subtitles) * Writing... hand write scriptures word-for-word to re-enforce learning. (This has progressed to me freeflow journalling) * speaking... I joined a Bible study community in Mexico where I can both listen and speak (even when my grammar isn't always correct) To finish off, I'll say that I am now in a space, by God's Grace, where I am reading and studying the whole Bible in raw Spanish. Not via a devotional, but the raw text. I started in Genesis early this year, I'm now toward the end of Numbers at this present moment 🎉 I hope this helps and encourages you! Feel free to ask more questions, and I'll respond when I can. Very best wishes!

As an immigrant child from Korea, I learned English while studying Bible at Catholic school at the age of 12. Then speaking next to no English but armed with a Korean Bible and an English-Korean dictionary, I painstakingly interpreted the English Bible verses every night for the Religion class, which was taught by dear Sister Cecilia, an elderly Irish nun. I think the process helped me pick up English faster in an engaging way. Having the parallel translations in both languages helped me learn to read English faster, I believe. Now, 27 years later, I just began reading the Bible in Spanish in an attemp to improve my Spanish. I did take Spanish back in middle school and high school, but then forgot most of it. But I had been studying the langage again in these past couple of years after visiting a few Spanish-speaking countries in my travels. My guess is that the Spanish translation would be closer to the original Latin Vulgate than the English translation, though, it would ultimately depend on the specific versions, I guess, since there are numerous translations in both languages. I have the Biblia de Jerusalén version, btw. Today, I was reading John's Gospel, and I noticed that the Holy Spirit, or "la Palabra (the Word)", was referred to as "ella", which is a feminine pronoun, and I found it very interesting, because the English translation used the male pronoun "He", whereas the Korean translation uses a gender-neutral reference. Which only makes sense, because technically Holy Spirit would have no gender, so "that person" (as in the Korean Bible which uses a gender-neutral honorific that has no equivalent in English) can also be "He" (in the English version) and can also be "She", or "ella" (in the Spanish Bible) 🙂

I love your teachings! Can you share with me how do we translate the word wavering? I see displayed a lot in the Bible. Waver
@missionali3134
@missionali3134 11 ай бұрын
Gracias hermana. Good question with “wavering”. Depends on context and different words can be used. For example, “indeciso” means indecisive which can mean wavering in your ability to make a decision. “Dudar” means to doubt and can mean wavering in your faith. Or “vacilante” which means to vacilate or something that is unstable or weak. Again, just depends on context and Spanish offers several words based on what you want to emphasize. Hope that helps and great to have you here.

Hola. Very glad to have you here. I do have some videos where I pronounce quite a bit slower. Usually the ones where the title says “Learn to say . . . in Spanish”. I break it down more thoroughly and go over pronunciation. Hope that helps. El Señor te bendiga.

Hola Kayla. Sorry for the lag in response. Best thing to do initially is listen, listen, listen to Spanish. Get used to hearing the language on a regular basis (sermons, movies, podcasts, KZbin videos, etc.) That is how we learned it as kids and is the most natural. Then try to read it and speak it, even if it’s only to yourself. You need to get used to pronouncing words and sentences. At that point, I think you’ll be amazed at how much you know. Hope that helps. Dios te bendiga.
