thank you so much guys, I 've learnt a lot from you, both longswords and quaterstaff, glad to have you back, do you have other plans for video tutorials in the future, say, messer? Also, about the "edge to edge" question, it is quite interesting coz I have a friend who practice Japanese Katana, and he told me that in the Japanese historical Kendo, they never use edge against edge in order to protect the blade, does this mean that a long sword is easier to be constructed than a Katana, (in the medieval context of course)?
@Dreynschlag4 жыл бұрын
hi, glad you like our videos! Regarding the weapons: Unfortunately we don't have experience with katanas, so we are not qualified to compare these with the longsword. Messer might be an option in the distant future, however for now we have other plans. Stay tuned... ;)
@jwrine36313 жыл бұрын
Due to the hardening process, the katana has I slightly harder edge on average, making it more prone to chipping. Perhaps that has something to do with it? (Just a theory, I have done little research on this subject)

On women fencing: I have been absolutely creamed by a woman twice my age and half my height. Skill matters more than gender, age, or size. Granted, if you fight someone taller and stronger but equally skilled as you, your chances do go down but that doesn’t mean it still isn’t fun!

@violecranell4 жыл бұрын
Can you use a long sword with a single hand effectively? I know that a short sword is probably better to use if you use a one hand, but what if you wanted to use your other hand to grab something else like a shield, dagger, or maybe another long sword to duel wield (I'm assuming that a long sword isn't very heavy).
@Dreynschlag4 жыл бұрын
Generally speaking: No. You lack control and speed when wielding a long sword with one hand. There are, however, types of swords that can be wielded with one or two hands. If this topic interests you, search for "Oakeshott Typology".

Hi! I am actually curious about some thing I found out that is it true that there are eight angles that you have strike a person with a sword so why is it that you can almost hit someone in the legs? What drills should I practice or do when I’m doing swordsmanship and learn how to sword fight by myself when I don’t have someone to train with? Please contact me back when you have a chance. Have a good day!

@Dreynschlag2 жыл бұрын
Hallo!

My question: Is Zoro's three-sword-style possible in real life, and if somehow you would master it, will it be more effective that one or two swords?
@Dreynschlag6 ай бұрын
Haha, awesome question, that's a first. ;) No, his style would not work, since holding the sword with your mouth is a great style in anime, however in RL unfortunately less than practical. There are a couple of styles out there, that work with two weapons. Mostly tools with diferent lengths - rapier and dagger, sword and buckler. Or in eastern martial arts wakizashi and katana. On top of my head I only know one style, that works with 3 weapons fluently - a roman retiarius, a gladiator type that works with net, trident and dagger. Out of own experience - you sometimes have all three weapons at hand.

@Dreynschlag4 жыл бұрын
Hello! I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I can't answer this question. I think the best solution would be to try it very carefully and see how your body reacts to the strain.
@mimielleuse4 жыл бұрын
@@Dreynschlag sounds reasonable, thanks
@sabelfechter71364 жыл бұрын
Rapier is extremly straining due to weight and stance, often more than Longsword. Smallsword would be a really good option, and a lot of fun. Its like Rapier just lighter and shorter, also the stance is not as extremly leaned forward.

What is the practical application of HEMA?
@HannoHupmann4 жыл бұрын
Like every sport, HEMA helps with health and with its complex movement patterns to develop a good body feeling. The associated need to concentrate on one thing can promote concentration and is comparable to meditation, only better suited for people who cannot or do not want to sit still.
