So if i learn the backend stuff for a year in my job ,where we use drupal symfony php, will i be able later to get .net jobs ? Or they still they would care about .net jobs experience ?

Laravel for programmers and symfony for legends

Symfony or Laravel may not be the fastest or smallest however 'slow' and 'big' are relative terms, and the performance also depends on the implementation. I agree that microframeworks can be a great option for certain projects, However frameworks often have more features that facilitate the development and maintenance.

Speed is subjective, but I agree Symfony is one of the slowest frameworks out there, mainly do to the many levels of complex middleware the request has to go through, same issue with Laravel but not as slow. I once did a simple test: RESTfull app that authenticated user against LDAP server and return JWT keys. Authentication code was my own custom made, an I used it in Symfony 5, Laravel 7 & Codeigniter 4. Symfony took over 3 seconds, Laravel roughly 2 seconds, Codeigniter less then a second (all run on the same machine).

I honestly find that symfony is one of the fastest php frameworks, if you know a faster PHP framework, please share it here, and I will do a fair performance comparison

Depends on how far you want your framework to go. Personally I think it's better to design the backend using Symfony and focus on heavy Javascript in a framework on the frontend. The backend will be very stable and you can spend your time developing a quality frontend which avoids a lot of server reloads. It should scale as well.

Perhaps he is claiming the patterns used in Symfony is more interchangeable with other frameworks in general, but then I haven't tried Laravel yet and I'm still learning Symfony

Laravel is widely-used and has its own unique strengths, and Yes Learning laravel will improve your skills set however as @leonf.7893 said, the architecture in Symfony are used in more frameworks and the cli tool is really powerfull, one can create a fully customized working crud application without writing code.

@@munteanudan5838 symfony was one of the first full-blown framework, so it was a natural choice but as time went by better & quicker solutions came to market. Right now if a company is searching for a developer with Symfony knowledge it means they got legacy code that needs maintaining & upgrading, and rewrite is not possible or not feasible. Very few businesses will start new project with Symfony these days in my opinion

​@Piotr Suplat that's for legacy code, many new projects have popped in past two years after 5.0 and have taken over eco system. There's always a demand if you look at right place. On other hand most projects may not be worthy of being in enterprise eco-system thus mostly hidden from common market.
