Because of your video I decided to take a class... This morning in Florence in a little atelier in front of Palazzo Pitti I had a class with a man that was 5th generation artisan in book binding and marble paper. I was amazed at what I achieved in one hour. I understood 90% of what Guido was telling me. Now I want to do more!

I agree, to me it's even more magical when you see the process. I don't think it was understanding how it's done that ruined the magic for her, but more likely having done it so much for so long. Often when you turn art into a routine or a job it loses its magic, it becomes a chore.

All good questions.. Carageenan is used to thicken the water. Aluminum Sulphate is used to make the design bond permanently with the paper (paper is not special but I choose to use a Japanese printmaking paper called Masa) and drying takes about 45 minutes indoors and less outdoors. All of these items and instrucitons are available for purchase at www.marblingsupplies.etsy.com.

Kenny, the paper will wrinkle somewhat. I use better paper, chosen with this in mind (see question above). After my papers are completely dry, they go under a cookie sheet with several heavy books piled on top for several days. This helps press out the wrinkles.

@marblingsupplies4 жыл бұрын
Look for strong, flexible fiber-based artist's paper for marbling. Paper must usually be treated with a solution of water mixed with aluminum sulfate (or alum) crystals before marbling. The alum helps the paint stick more permanently so that it doesn't blur or run. Find paper and alum here: www.marblingsuppies.etsy.com

My paint is acrylic based and specially formulated for marbling. It is best used with the MarblingSupplies.com process. Please check it out at MarblingSupplies.etsy.com.
