A little narration explaining the steps would go a long way to help somebody new to this.
@TheStumpyBrigade5 жыл бұрын
That would be great! Maybe when we have proper equipment we can do more narration :P (Sorry for the bad joke but we would love to be able to do more things like this with our videos!)

I have a husky mix that has a moderately low play drive but like most dogs, loves to chase squirrels and geese. He practices flyball, has done rally once and participates really well in CAT. I’d really like him to try other sports to see what he likes and what he’s good at as well as keep him busy. How would I go about starting this? I’m assuming before any trial I would have to pay a close club to practice and introduce him to it as shown in the video? Something I am also working on is reactivity, will there be other dogs around? Thanks!!
@TheStumpyBrigade3 жыл бұрын
The faculty we practiced at could probably work with a reactive dog but normally during trials there were other dogs around. Normally though there is only the judge and the dog handler in the ring during trials and training sessions. It’s a fun sport to try!

my terrier in the fields finds mice and strangles them. How can he now embrace that they do not need to be strangled, but only to find tubes? ))
@TheStumpyBrigade7 жыл бұрын
The rats used in the sport of Barn Hunting are kept in plastic tubes to keep them safe! If he already likes finding them he might make a good ratter! You can search online to find a location that does trials near you! You can always start with an Instinct Trial to see how he reacts!

In my country almost no one knows about this sport. Its your, US know how. I want to start it, first of all for my fox terrier. But I dont know how to begin.
@TheStumpyBrigade7 жыл бұрын
You could try making your own rat tubes with PVC pipes? We could do a how to video about how they are made since we use them here all the time if that would help you! Let us know what you think!

Oh? its good idea

Its first of all i thinked about - PVC pipes. And I must no to say for the seller in the pet store? why I buy the rats)))) I think for begin 3 rats its enaugh. Mmm/// our farmers dont keep bales of straw - they, idiots, throw them away or burn the straw directly on the field.

You want to rid a barn of rats. Bring in some "Jack Russell" Terriers. They are born with the instinct to hunt and kill rats.
@TheStumpyBrigade5 жыл бұрын
There are many breeds born for this type of work!

titaniumpecker This is a fun teamwork thing for a dog & handler - the rats are pets - no one gets hurt and any dog can have fun doing it.

@@545Booboo Hi there, literally just now found out about barn hunt so lots of questions - you say the rats are pets and the dog is not to harm the rat/pest? I have a small coonhound mix who just LOVES to chase things down and smell them out, but I don't know if he could really use his prey drive to hunt it down.. and then leave it alone.
@545Booboo5 жыл бұрын
n b The rats are in special tubes - the dogs can smell them but not make actual contact with them. It also keeps the rats contained so they don't get lost. My girl puts her paw on the tube when she finds it - the tubes are sometimes covered with straw, sometimes they're empty and or they can contain rat litter - the dogs learn to identify the one with the rat. When they find it they're rewarded & praised like crazy and the tube is removed from the hunt area - the rats are also switched up frequently to keep them from getting tired. 🙂
