Great video - straight to the point! Do you know how to get rid of the delay in headphones when using this controller? Never this issue on other decks, but with this one, the controller output in my headphones is slightly faster than my speakers making it hard to mix in a timely fashion - I'm mixing without headphones but would prefer this not being the case!

While BPM has ALWAYS been talked about among producers and DJs since the begining of the EDM revolution a DJ that learned to mix vinyl with a pitch fader and ONLY their ears doesn't even need to know a godamn thing about BMP. The equipment of old NEVER displayed BPM There were no displays on anything back in the day LOL. This topic of mixing is one I hold dear because I learned on Technics 1200 MKIIs, the first turntable EVER to have a pitch fader and was created in 1972. The original MKI did NOT have a pitch fader. The MKII ushered in the ability to beatmatch and changed the dance scene FOREVER. I learned how to beatmatch this way, with only my ears, and I feel like an old tradition, the one that took at least 1,000 hours of practice before you could even play in front of a crowd. Those days are gone. Anybody can beatmatch now I honestly don't know how I feel about it. Don't want to be a gatekeeper but sometimes I feel like standing at the door and not letting people in if I'm being honest.

Nice tutorial, thank you so much! I didn't quite understand one thing. The second track was 127 bpm originally and you match it with the other track and made it 132. After you're done with the mixing of the tracks and you stop the first track, shouldn't you bring back the second track to its original bpm 127? If so how you do it to not screw up the sound? What I mean by that how you can do it smoothly without been noticed that the track is slowed down, you do it very slowly or?
@BopDJstore Жыл бұрын
The tracks will stay the bpm you set them on the decks until you manually reset it, you could drop the track down but it depends on the situation. In cases like this its always good to read the vibe and the crowd sometimes. Bring the tempo back down can ruin the energy of a track so rather than slowing it right down, you can mix 2 or 3 songs and slowly nudge them back until you return to 127bpm. If you want to make the jump within one track I would suggest on every 8 bar slightly dropping it down slightly, and doing this until you return to the original BPM. You can do this quicker if there are no drums or vocals as this is what our ears can pin point is being sped up or slowed down! - I hope this helps
@Agigimsk9 ай бұрын
good video, I just have one question, how ti you know when to start counting and to start the transition?and does this work the same way with songs with vocals?
@BopDJstore9 ай бұрын
1. I wait for a transition to occur, you can normally hear this with risers or a change in element added. From there I start counting. Once you practice this enough it becomes second nature. 2. This works the same for all kinds of music, but like I said some tracks in the jazz world are in different time signatures so you'd need to count them differently :)

I’d like to ask how the loop function is used on this controller… thanks
@BopDJstore9 ай бұрын
The loop function can be activated in 3 separate ways, either by using the loop in and out button found at the top left of each deck. 1. This is manual and you can dial in the length of your loop by selecting the in or out button again and moving the jog wheel, and then selecting the in/or out button again to confirm your loop. 2.You can hold the exit button which will automatically make a 4 bar loop. 3. Beat loop is a function that can be found on the performance pads, this allows you too look lengths such as 8 bar and 16 right of the bat, you can see on your Laptop screen what lengths are available once you engage the button. In all instances you can then use the Cue/Loop Call arrows to extend or shorten the loop by x2 or /2

There’s nothing wrong with using the sync button to sync the BPM’s so they don’t drift apart. Just nudge the track to match the previous. Gone are the days of needing to do it manually on a set of Technics. It’s sad yes but technology moves on. The sync button is just another tool for mixing. Like the crossfader or EQ’s. Being able to mix 2 tracks manually doesn’t mean you’re a superstar DJ.
@Peter-Reactor Жыл бұрын
Yes there is nothing wrong with it, however, mixing is a skill, an art form when done correctly, any idiot can buy a controller and hit sync.
@c4p4c1t1v3 Жыл бұрын
I don't get the hate with sync. DJs who do it manually think they are better and just hate that their skill is not so much a skill as they thought
@Peter-Reactor Жыл бұрын
@@c4p4c1t1v3 I don't think you're a proper DJ unless you can beat match. Part of the art of Djing is being able to hold a mix in using your ears and skill. If you've spent years learning like a lot of oldschool djs who played vinyl then I'm not too bothered, but new djs just moving straight to sync are being lazy imo.
@c4p4c1t1v3 Жыл бұрын
@@Peter-Reactor keep on gatekeeping. using tools to make things easier doesn't mean you aren't a 'proper' DJ. As long as you mix music well and keep people dancing, who the hell cares how you get there. The end result is what matters. AI will be making DJs obsolete soon anyway so have fun while you can
@Peter-Reactor Жыл бұрын
@@c4p4c1t1v3 that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, just don't expect everyone to agree with you. Some of the most famous house and techno djs are famous because of their skills at mixing, be that multiple decks or ability to create long mixes. Absolutely anyone can have pick up a controller, buy some tracks and mix them using sync, I honestly believe I could teach my 11 year old daughter that. Keep on enjoying your music however you like though.

Hello, I'm a beginner and just bought a DDJ FXL4, why the Waveform are going so fast on my truck? it's hard for me to mix BPM tracks 1 and 2. what should I do. thanks for the instructions
@BopDJstore Жыл бұрын
You could try zooming out on Rekordbox so you can see what is to come on the waveform. Alternatively you could use the wide mode to slow down the tracks entirely (this will change how they sound) so you get the rough timing and slowly increase as you feel more comfortable.

so what if its RNB do i still do the counting the same or is it a slower count
@BopDJstore20 күн бұрын
The counting is to the beats so ultimately depends on the bpm (ie. speed)
@qooke78762 ай бұрын
Sorry noob question but I'm a bit confused... So once youve matched the beats between track 1&2 that would mean that track 2 is playing faster or slower than its original bpm right? Do you then put track 2 back to its original bpm, if so how do you do it? Surely this would mean every song you play in a set wouldn't be played at its original bpm? Thanks
@BopDJstore2 ай бұрын
Every song you play in your sit plays at a different BPM unless you adjust it after you have mixed it in, I normally operate on the rule that +/- 6% sounds fine. In some cases you can go further with this rule and break it but I noticed in this range tracks tend to keep their original dynamics.

@BopDJstore Жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, if you are using a previous version of iTunes you should be able to drag your tracks straight to your desktop as .m4a files and input them into rekordbox. If you have updated to a recent version I don't believe this feature is available and I would recommend purchasing tracks else where, from sites such as Beatport or Bandcamp. Alternatively you can use streaming platforms such as Tidal through Rekordbox which emulate iTunes & Spotify 😁

wait a minute, so you’re telling me the technique for “beatmatching” is setting it to the tempo and then just pressing play? this is the same thing as just pressing beat sync and then pressing play, why is beat sync frowned upon
@RoloRotMG Жыл бұрын
Because it is really hard to figure out the bpm without looking and THEN lining up the tracks phrases properly, all in time for the next transition, you really don’t have that much time to do it
@unnq Жыл бұрын
@@RoloRotMG I was under the impression that the CDJ's display waveforms on each individual deck, deff makes it more difficult without even seeing the wave form
@BopDJstore Жыл бұрын
Not entirely, we firstly match the BPMs to ensure they don't drift. Secondly we match the phrases, which is why I was counting each individual beat. Because if we don't match the phrases and just press play they will be out and it will be noticeable when transitions occur. Beat Sync is a tool, but if your gridson your track aren't correctly aligned/analysed it can work against you and syncing would actually make it worse.
