Thank you so much for this treasure of information, the Nord synth is definitely complicated and needs to be explained. here is what I found about Sound initial and program init, you could initial panel A or B with sound init individually. If you'd like to start fresh A& B panels then use the Program init.
@MyKeysToMusic Жыл бұрын
Thank you @Joe Palawan - Thanks for the comment! In most of these early videos, I focused on just resetting the synth engine itself and paid less attention to resetting the entire program, but you bring up a great point here and I'm glad you mentioned it.

Marc, your best videos are the ones where you do not get sidetracked or jump ahead. linear baby steps === that is what works so well for you.

Thanks for the tips. I believe this one was one of my earlier videos but it is interesting to watch the earlier ones versus the later ones. Had I to do it all over again, I believe the second round of training for the Synth engine would be improved on a number of levels not least of which is my understanding of the synth engine now versus back then.

Good job Marc. I am a very advanced user of this synth, and I think what you are doing will really help a lot of folks out, as this is the only video series on this subject as far as I know. One tip though, if you have the latest OS installed (1.6) when holding shift and sound init, you can double click the sound init button and not have to keep clicking ok. Again, really good job and I applaud you!

Love your work. Thanks for educating us. Question. With the envelope control being 3 pole and not 4, does that mean that Sforzando (Sfz) is not supported?
@MyKeysToMusic4 жыл бұрын
Hi Scadaboy-oh-boy. So, the answer to this question is no, Sforzando in the purest sense is not supported exactly with the lack of the 4th pole. Although you can kind of imitate it a bit if you introduce the Mod Envelope with a decay. (i.e. You'd have a brighter sound at the beginning and as you hold the note, the Mod envelope would decrease the high frequencies giving you an effect of Sforzando via high-frequency reduction rather than purely by volume). I've never head it described like this but I like where you are going here with these thoughts and provides another way to describe the differences between 3 and 4 pole envelopes to a musician who might be new to synthesis.

In a lot of my training videos in the actual course, I tend to have more lessons with just the hands only (because these videos are actually easier to do). But for the channel, I like to have a fair amount of talking head as I mix training, with my commentary as well as provide updates and what gets me excited about what I'm doing. So the bottom line is, if it's pure training, perhaps there's no need for talking head. But since it's KZbin, I'm trying to connect with people as a KZbin creator so I feel this is best accomplished by people watching me on the screen a bit more. Hello Marc, Thank you very much! I'd like to ask you whether you know how it is possible to use the Attack, Decay, and Release not only with the Synth, but with the Organ and Piano section too? Daniel
@MyKeysToMusic4 жыл бұрын
Hi Dani. Great question here. The answer is mostly "no" but there is one small exception to that. So, the ADSR feature only works with the synth engine. Therefore that functionality doesn't extend to either the Organ or the Piano engines at all. Now with the Piano samples from the Piano Engine, the ADSR is already "baked into" the sample creating an ideal situation to best represent those sounds. The same applies to the organ engine where the envelope (in the case of the organ, it's an instant attack, full sustain, and instant release) is representative of exactly how organs produce their sounds. So, you'd think - why change a good thing and mess with the spirit of what a sound is supposed to emulate right? Well, humans are a bit more creative than that and sometimes we want to do crazy things "just because". So, give this a try: Turn on your synth engine. Select "Wave" as your sound selection. Then select "Organ 1" in that category. You'll hear a similar organ sound that the organ engine would produce but yet you can adjust the envelope! I cover this concept more in my synth training videos parts 2, 3, 4, etc. So, I recommend you keep watching the synth series here on KZbin. Oh, and since the synth engine can also play samples, you'll find that there are piano samples available to you within the synth engine whereby you can adjust the envelope as well. So, again, the pure answer to your question is no, but if you get creative with the samples playable in the synth engine, the answer becomes "yes, sort of" 😊 Hope that helps!

Great tutorial Mark thanks a lot! Wondering if you can help with this question, I am trying to use the same tremolo effect to control both my synth engine and the organ engine at the same time on the same panel. Do you know if this is possible?
@MyKeysToMusic5 жыл бұрын
Hi Samuel. Technically speaking, the official tremolo effect can only be invoked on a single sound engine on a single panel at a time. So, I don't think this is possible. Of course, it is possible by using two panels and assigning the synth to one panel and the organ to the other, each having the tremolo effect assigned. Thanks for the question!

Cheers for all the help on the Nord stage! I’m wondering if it’s possible to use multiple synth engines on the same panel? So if I for example could have four synth engines running at the same time?
@MyKeysToMusic3 жыл бұрын
Hello Dan. Unforunately this is not possible. Only two synths at the same time (Panel A and B). For four synth layers, you'd need to look at a Nord Wave 2 or a Nord Lead A1 or the like. On a similar note, if you haven't already checked it out, I did a Chariots of Fire video where I featured 4 Nord keyboards which provided 11 synth/sample engines and 2 piano engines: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5DFe5-dgdGoqrc It demonstrates the power of the Nord synths when used together - especially having multiple arpeggiators which come in extremely handy on a tune like Chariots.

Could you do one of these with the Nord Stage 4 or are both nord stages similar?

@luisfernandes1273 Hello Luis! The keyboards are similar in a lot of ways (especially in the Piano and Organ sections). The synth section is similar in many ways as well, but there are key differences in the way the synth engine works and more features to explore/learn. I have dedicated my time to do this specifically for the Nord Stage 4 in my Pro course found at www.MyKeysToMusic.com called "Master the Nord Stage 4." I may do an Intro to Synthesizers section (for free) as well down the road for the NS4 - but for now, my detailed synth lessons for the NS4 can be found in the pro course. Thanks! - Marc 🎶 🎹

Thank you! Most important question. Can you use the organ draw boards faders/sliders, buttons, etc., with the Synth engine? Midi map more parameters... Or are you confined with just the Synth Engine panel? Hopefully not.
@MyKeysToMusic3 жыл бұрын
Hello. If I'm understanding your question correctly, you could totally control just about any aspect of the synth from outside controller keyboards (and other types of hardware) via MIDI. The full MIDI spec is available here (page 60): www.nordkeyboards.com/sites/default/files/files/downloads/manuals/nord-stage-3/Nord%20Stage%203%20English%20User%20Manual%20v2.5x%20Edition%20M.pdf

@@MyKeysToMusic Hi, thank you for your response. NO. I'm asking you if I can use the ORGAN draw boards to midi map other parameters from inside the SYNTH ENGINE. What's disappointing about the NORD Stage 3 is that they didn't include the ADSR AMP ENV nor ADSR AMP knobs. For $4500 it would have been kind to offer 8 more knobs. Similar to the NORD LEAD 2/3/4... Within the OLED screen is there a way to utilize the ORGAN Draw Boards to modulate the SYNTH ENGINE? Thank you! P.S. My friend just order one and we are so curious... Seriously, who uses an Organ that much. :)

More so, Is the NORD STAGE 3 only 2-Part Multitimblal? Meaning that you can only have two patches/sounds playing simultaneously... If so, that would horrible.
@MyKeysToMusic3 жыл бұрын
@@augmentedkeys5971 Hi - Unfortunately, there is no way to use the organ drawbars to morph, control, or adjust things inside the synth engine. And yes, it would have been nice to have 4 knobs for ADSR for the envelopes - I agree with you on that. They do include 4 knobs for Amp and filter envelope for the Wave 2 (as an example).
@MyKeysToMusic3 жыл бұрын
@@augmentedkeys5971 Yes, the short answer is that the Stage 3 is only 2-part Multitimbral for the same engine. However, you can obviously play sounds from the piano engine, the organ engine, and the synth engine simultaneously giving you a total of six layers. However, only two layers are possible with sounds coming from the same sound engine at one time. A another example of this would be if you wanted to use a bass sample for your left hand and a string sample on your right hand. You can do that. However, you can't have a bass sample on your left hand and a string sample combined with a flute sample on your right hand - that you can't do. In that case, you could play a Fender Rhodes bass part coming out of the piano engine (like the Doors do) and use panels A and B to layer the string and flutes coming from the right hand. Hope this is clear!

Each one has its advantages and disadvantages. Hi Marc. My church owns the Stage 3. If I reinitialize the synth engine to 0 and experiment, do I need to put the settings back to the the default so I don't change any of the sounds that someone else might use with the synth engine?
@MyKeysToMusic3 жыл бұрын
@Rick Johnson - thanks Rick - great question. The safest way to experiment like this is to start with a blank program. Navigate all the way to the end of the program list where the blank programs are and pick one to start with there. That way you can build your synth sounds and click "Store" without the worry of breaky anything that already exists. After you do that and you settle on something you like, you can optionally store the synth preset itself independent of the program. In this way, you can use your synth with other programs that already exist easily. Storing a synth preset works nearly the same as storing a program. It's tricky the first time you do it but just follow the screens. You'll find the synth preset store button under the LFO section of the synth. Hope that gets you started!

Hello! i just have a question. I’m going to do your “Master the Stage 3” course. So these 5 part videos about the stage 3 synth will be in that course? Or should I see these KZbin videos also after that course?
@MyKeysToMusic2 жыл бұрын
Hello @Ricardo Conceição thank you for your question and interest in the course! Actually, a great many of the course videos are much newer/better than what you see here on KZbin. The course accommodates both the older style panel layout for the Stage 3 as well as the newer style panel layout of the Stage 3. Here on KZbin, I’m using the older style. So, you may find it best to start with the course if that makes sense for you. While we’re on the topic, I thought I’d quickly compare the course with KZbin. The course has a lot of exclusive content not available on KZbin. At this point, the only advantage of my videos here on KZbin is that they can be auto-translated with subtitles in other languages and technically, they are “free” although you’ll have to put up with my marketing speak before, during, and after. KZbin will also present ads before, after, and sometimes in the middle of most of the lessons which can interrupt the flow of the lesson. The course on the other hand is a focused experience with hundreds of lessons providing a beginning, middle and end to the learning process and it tracks your progress. Everything is neatly organized in sections and it’s like a mini encyclopedia. There is no marketing speak or ads played anywhere in the course. Paying students also get priority access with questions they have sometimes extending to questions about customized setups or advanced topics that require serious thought, research, and testing. Although for people with questions, there are free resources by way of the Nord User Forum and several Facebook groups which are in fact terrific, but both also have ads sprinkled throughout and your questions will be public. I help people on all sides of course and I love our growing KZbin community for sure, but I do give priority to students as best I can since they have taken the plunge and committed to their learning with a small financial investment. There may come a day soon where I won’t be able to answer every comment here on KZbin so I’m hoping others will step in for me when possible. We’re nearing 11,000 subscribers and the questions keep coming. 🙏🏼. Thanks again for your interest!!

@MyKeysToMusicАй бұрын
@drestaura_2 the Nord website has both pianos and well as "samples" that are downloadable for use on a given Nord keyboard. Those samples also include selected sounds that can be used for organs and pads played via the synth engine. Typically, however, when it comes to organs, if your Nord keyboard has an "organ engine," you'd use that to generate the sound, not samples. When it comes to pads, typically, that's done with the synth engine either by using a sample played through the synth engine or the synth engine itself (assuming you have a Wave 2 or a Stage 2/3/4 keyboard).
