Good song choice! It may not be his best-known song, but one historian of Sun records called it "arguably the high point of Perkins' career on record, and probably the best song he had a hand in writing."

I can’t disagree with that point. I think by that time he’d had such a mega-hit with Blue Suede Shoes that he was confident in his song writing and was just letting things fly. Even with a song like Dixie Fried which pretty much just a vamp in A, he makes it interesting with that climbing motifs from the major 3rd up to the 5th, and then has the confidence to just lets the story carry the song and not complicate things. It’s what made Carl so damn great!

It’s a great deep cut from the Carl Perkins catalog! I was surprised when doing some quick research that it made it to #10 back in 1956. It’s a fun one with some really cool parts.
