This is another installment of learn the rotary. The rotary polisher is simply the scalpel of my detailing arsenal. I also find it fun to use. The rotary can cut and finish better than any tool available and was once the first and only tool available to detailers early on. When I first started...the rotary and wet sanding needed to be mastered to keep your job. I am more than happy to share all experiences and knowledge with all of my friends out there. Shine On!!!

I love Pawn Stars, but Apex Detail is my new favorite show. Thank you sir, I am finally getting paid. Just did my first professional paint correction on a 2006 Jaguar Super V8. Bid it at $450 because I am building a portfolio. By the time I’m finished I will make about $3 per hour cause it’s taking me forever. But that is okay because perfection and repeat business is my goal. She is Black and I started with a MaxShine M8S V2. Now I’m watching rotary videos to get it done. Best detail channel for me…!! Thank you for your dedication and hard work.

That was one hell of a turnaround. I find restoration detailing on common cars to be far more impressive. It shows the craft far more because an exotic car does too many favors in the way of looks. That Caddy looked better than a factory could ever dream of turning-out.

Hey Apex, I came across your channel through the Harbor Freight website when I was looking for a cheap DIY rotary polisher. I’m hoping you’ll see my question and can offer some advice. I have a Corris gray 2016 Land Rover LR4; I dropped it off at the dealership for service and when it was returned to me it had 3 long scratches around perimeter of the vehicle at the same level, most likely from the complementary car wash. I was super upset, it was in pristine condition when I dropped it off... The service manager had someone take it back into the shop and I assume buff out the scratches. It’s now a year+ later, I was hand washing the car, now that the spring pollen season has ended and those same scratches are back. Argh! I watched several of your other videos to deal with the scratch and I feel somewhat confident I can tackle the problem here at home since I already have some of the tools to complete the project, including the special Trizac sanding foam pads and several sheets of wet dry sanding cloth up to 20,000 grit. Does it ever makes since to “fill” a scratch with clear coat and then level it out so the scratches don’t reappear? Could that be done at home with an airbrush type sprayer? Or better left to the pros? Also, do you think Land Rover’s paint is particularly soft? I have never had paint scratch or chip off my SAAB or Subaru the way it does off the LR4. I would think the paint and clear coat would be a lot tougher on an off road vehicle that it’s intended use is to come in contact with brush, grit and gravel? I cringed when I barely bumped the edge of the tailgate with my snowboard and there it was the first chip in my new car.😭 Thanks for the great info on your channel. I really appreciate your willingness to teach and mentor others.

Brian. I have not used a rotary before, only DA for the last 5 yrs. I purchased one and will do some junkyard panels to test, however is there a recommendation as to speed/rpm you should run it at ? (for eg with the DA on a Rupes I run at 4.5 with a 5"pad). Also will the compounds or AIO work the same? My go to is 3D One but I have ACA500 as well. Also work with Scholl concepts S3, S20 and Megs DA Microfibre correction. So would any of these work in the same way as they do with a DA? Thanks for all your advice and input. Truly appreciate your support.

I have a Flex but find myself usually only using my Rupes 15 for almost all my needs. Are the rotaries better suited for just heavy cutting, or is there an advantage of using a rotary as my default go-to all the time? FYI. I mostly detail only light/medium scratches and only do my personal cars. So need to churn out 4-5 cars per day like in a detail business.
