Learn the Route Through Lower Wacker Drive

What I gather from Reddit is a ton of people use this, yet no one actually knows where they are going and people just hope they go in the general direction they need

I remember using Lower Wacker back in the 60's and 70's but from the other direction. I would take I290 (Eisenhower Express Way) from the suburbs. Just past the old Post Office (the building you drive through) you would take a ramp to the right for Wacker and then stay left for Lower Wacker. Same route as now but back then it seemed much darker and there were green lights all along the way and everyone called it the Emerald City. It would finally end somewhere past Michigan Ave right by the lower entrance to the Billy Goat Tavern. Great route to take a girl on a date to a downtown movie on a Saturday night.

I've used lower wacker getting to and from gigs as many of the loading docks for the hotels are down there... and Bill Goat Tavern is great!

I am from WISCONSIN, and used to go to CHICAGO in the 1980's & 1990's. It scared me then (when I was younger and prettier) and I would have panic attack if I had to drive in this today! Thanx for posting.

Some narration would be helpful, either spoken or captions: .... I'm heading south on LSD, getting into the right lane when I see Illinois/Grand/Navy Pier/Wacker exit.. the ramp on the right will take you to upper Wacker at street level, but we're taking the left lane going to lower Wacker underneath the city...etc...

The biggest problem with the bi-leveling is that rideshare drivers might not know how to get to my building at Upper Illinois Street. Some of them get confused because they end up on the lower level and I'm not there.

thats more of a problem with ride shares, not from having multiple levels. the ride shares should adapt.

@@jabolpl84 that’s unless you stay on the lower wacker drive section. You can also get to the lower level by driving under the st Regis building, also known as vista tower. If your heading north on Michigan Ave you make a right on Randolph st and stay in the very far right lane so your on upper Randolph and not lower Randolph. You then drive up two blocks and make a left on n. Fields st, drive around to the other side because the street is like a circle and you will see you can make a right to drive right under the building to the very lower level of the lower multi street levels.
