One of the best accounts I have read about real SHTF survival and this happened in a city is called The Dark Secrets of SHTF Survival by Selco Begovic. It's this persons account of surviving through the Balkan war as a civilian.

I'm into movies, so I have to mention that "I am Legend" is really a remake of "The Omega Man" with Charleton Heston. And that came after "Last Man on Earth" with Vincent Price, but the latter two are more alike or similar than the first. If you watch "The Omega Man" you'd see that Heston had a fortified dwelling with an underground garage. He had a jeep and generators plus stored fuel. He even had military type clothing and an M1 Grease gun. Heston's Dr. Neville was really more of a prepper than Will Smith's character and more attention was paid to his supplies and gear. He didn't have to deal with thugs or gangs, but he only went out during the daylight hours to get stuff. There were no gardens. He could freely go find things, brand new and untouched, without any resistance. We know it's most likely that people will loot stores for both necessities and luxury items like Air Jordan's and 50" flat screens. A great film about survival or prepping is, "Panic in The Year Zero" with Ray Milland, Jean Hagen, Frankie Avalon and Mary Mitchel. The family is going camping in a trailer and a nuclear bomb hits the city. The father reacts and makes plans on the fly. They relied on mobility and then found a location to hunker down.

Live as an expat in the capital city of a controversial country in S. America....Have both bugged-in and bugged-out in several countrywide SHTF events.... it's important to have several safehouses scattered all over rhe city in friends' homes for emergency overnight stays... Recently i completed a 6-week bug-in experiment (rentng a room) in an emblematic but run-down rat-infested 40 story apto. high rise, without any normal baths/showers, while collecting water 2x week in a nearby El Avila national park (mountain spring) right next to the city., or pumped wellwater at one city location safehouse, and relying on ordinary stocked items for the test run, such as canned or other ready-to-eat-foods, with no fuel, expect for a tiny rocket stove on a balcony, all the while continuing to run my business online, from a smartphone and laptop. Mind you, I didn't use the building's elevator in this simulation! .

We keep rabbits and quail specifically for a meat source in SHTF. We live in a small town that doesn’t allow farm animals and can’t move quite yet but wanted to have something. We are also growing food anywhere and everywhere that we can.

I won't say, 'I like' but I agree with the term 'moral flexibility'. The lines between right and wrong are not blurry. They are broken. Law enforcement and fire department will be non-existent. I didn't think about needing 300&400 % of stach and food reserves. It's right, I didn't think about that.

I’m surprised more people haven’t considered indoor hydroponic farming during these situations. For example I’m planning on running a solar panel attached to a sun light down to a backup battery which feeds into a grow tent. Nutrients and seeds would already be on hand. I can do the same thing in various locations in the event one is compromised, and stuff like solar panels from street signs and car batteries can always be repurposed

I’m 67 years old. My wife and I recently retired! I was a hunter in my youth! Small game and big game! I never thought my hunting weapons would become home defense weapons! But here we are! I live in the peoples republic of Philadelphia Pennsylvania! I’m glad I own these weapons! A 12 gauge shotgun and a 30-06 Remington rifle are 2 handguns 357 magnum and browning high power 9mm. I’m hoping i don’t have to use them! But if I have to use anyone of my weapons I will! I have a wife and daughter who live with us and I’m glad I own them! I’ve also been stocking up on canned goods water bottles and I’m in the process of getting a generator! I have reinforced my doors with stronger screws to make it tougher to break in the house! Now they can break the windows and get in that way! That’s where my shotgun comes into play! Man I hope this doesn’t happen but I’m not optimistic!

The police and army will be the biggest marauders in very short order. If you make a big score one day, cache it in several places and retrieve in stages. the (Snipers! There will be gangs that organize. There will be snipers and spotter/scavengers.)

14:52 what's wrong with playing video games during SHTF? Ok, maybe not during actual chaos, but if there's a grid-down situation... internet, tv and sources of entertainment are down, I have some retro consoles (with 1,000 game cartridges) for NES, Genesis, SNES. Some families might prefer to play board games, etc... to have some normalcy. As long as my power needs are met by my generator, i might play a video game or two (just to have some normalcy and comfort). And normally, i'm not a gamer...not since my teens... but in a long-term grid down... I'd dust off the retro consoles and play (to pass the time)... as long as my home is secure...

Some of the negative things discussed are things that people simply need to be aware of or prepared for. Anyone in the city should store water and food to last a while. So that will take care of that. After a disaster it's logical to have to wait for flooding to pass as the water drains or for people to evacuate or troops to move through. Growing food indoors would be better than trying to grow it in small plots or in front of City Hall, but if things quiet down then you might be able to plant seeds or starter plants. The other option might be to collect the all the dirt one can and literally fill containers or dump in onto a floor in a large building. Flat trays or containers on shelves can be setup with grow lights and you can grow micro-greens or starter plants and then replant in larger containers. Just like keeping a bunny or doves or quail as indoor pets would allow one to expand. If you asked a friend or relative nearby to also keep a couple of small animals then you could breed your livestock with theirs. The tops of roofs, balconies, empty buildings, warehouses, etc., are all places that can be secured by the residents and give them adequate space for intensive gardening and raising small critters.

Nobody on any channel EVER talk about ways and products to turn sea water into drinking water. Also Nobody ever talks about things like dessert fog catchers, they would work on rooftops probably.
@MasterK9Trainer
@MasterK9Trainer Жыл бұрын
Well distillation can work with sea water, but people look down on the process because it requires heat, but as long as you have stuff to burn it's viable or solar distillation. I'm not sure how to make those fog catchers. I know that they collect a lot of the morning dew. I do know that you can connect a dehumidifier to a container or use a hose and then filter the water, but you need electricity to run that.

Here’s the thing…..do not forget that there are more armed, law abiding citizens than there are criminal element. What will hurt us, though, in a collapsed society…..is if all the law abiding citizens cower in their homes and just let the criminals run around raping and pillaging. There are more armed good guys amongst us….than there are armed criminals. But, we will have to take a stand early on.

you guys are posing highly unlikely and catastrophic situations, if those things happen, how long do you think before the " armies " or "gangs" that take over cities head to the country ? where will you " bug-out " too ? how do you defend a home in the country surrounded by open fields or trees, all of which are firing positions for intruders or marauders. the bottom line in answering the bug-in or bug-out situations is simple, try to have a bug-out plan but bug-out as a very last resort. besides 99.99% of us preppers DON"T have a " bug-out" location to go to.
@MasterK9Trainer
@MasterK9Trainer Жыл бұрын
Planning for expected threats is important. I don't have a "bug out" place and haven't even talked with relatives, so my idea would be to learn where I can go and live out of whatever I can load into a car. I have a good place to bug in, but I can load up a trailer which I feel very lucky to have and I can evacuate. The guys here can't cover every scenario, so things may happen very differently. The gangs are not going to have plans and won't be self-sufficient so if they can't steal things, they'll suffer. And people will band together. They lack the knowledge and intellect of most preppers. And even military will be trying to attack you on your territory which you can study, survey, map out and fortify.
@concernedpatriot.2221
@concernedpatriot.2221 Жыл бұрын
@@MasterK9Trainer 100% agree. I have a small bug-out plan. I live in Miami, We have a class A diesel RV and found a great secluded campground midway between miami and naples in the middle of the Everglades. That’s my main bug out plan. But I feel pretty safe bugging in at home. Like you said, neighbors will ban together, people will tend to defend their homes, I feel very confident that I will be able to protect my home against 90% of the human threats posed by criminals and marauders. Heck, we always talk about being a “ grey man “ to avoid confrontations, what a better way to stay under the radar from criminals than to be in a gated community with 290 homes that all virtually look the same. What are the chances criminals and marauders will target your home first ? Stay safe brother.
