I think that backside 180s are easier in my experience.

same i ride goofy and my natural way of spinning is left, so backside

Same here! My theory is that for BS 180 you start jumping when you’re on your toe edge, which is more natural than jumping on your heel edge in FS 180. But hey I’m also the weird one who finds toe side turns easier than heel side turns when I first started snowboarding 😂

So maybe i'm wrong about this but, in the audio you explain how to do the 180s with normal rotation and then most of the clips show 180s with counter-rotation. Is that right? I mean, i think it looks more stylish that way and it's perhaps easier to control, but i feel that step is not really being covered. Regardless, these videos always get me stoked for my next trip to the mountain, so thank you for putting them out here

Im no expert, but the way he's turning is with the mountain.Its a FS (frontside spin) so his view will be straight. If you meant counter rotation as in counter clockwise, if he did go clockwise he would have to look backwards up the mountain to spin. Which then makes it a BS (backside) 180

I see where you are coming from. But it's not what I meant. Both 180s (frontside and backside) can be done with counter-rotation or regular rotation. The difference doesn't have to do with where you're facing when spining. It's about whether you upper and lower body are rotating in the same direction or not. If you focus on the movement of the arms and shoulders in the video you will notice that they are counter-rotating the legs and, by extension, the board. This is just a different technique to achieve the same result, and I felt it wasn't being covered clearly. As a beginner trying to learn this I ended up paying more attention to the motion rather than the explanation to practice at home without a snowboard. (Proud to say that just last week I was able to do my first fs 180 thanks to this as well as other tutorials) Also, if my explanation of regular rotation vs counter-rotation wasn't very clear and you are still curious about it, I'm sure you will find plenty of content doing a better job at it on YT.

Most of the examples show no counter rotation. Some show some stall in the air to slow the rotation when coming off jumps/ side hits to account for the extra air time. The only ones that really showed obvious counter rotation were the ones where he jumped from a stand still, which makes sense because you have to overcome the lack of momentum starting like that.

Any tips on progressing from FS 180s to FS 3's? Would you recommend doing a BS 1 before moving up to a 3?

Yes, and switch back 1 for blind landing.
@zacharynelson9937 Жыл бұрын
Yes, practice switch backside 180’s, but also try watching a spot in front of you while you spin a full frontside 360 on the ground and keep your eyes locked on the same spot on the ground, helps with controlling your weight balance with the blind landing before you take to the air. Good luck!

Very nice vid. Do you agree with using an ollie on flat ground and use pop instead when hitting side hits / jumps? The speed + jump feature already gives enough air, and a pop of the lip is easier to keep stable than an ollie.

Thanks for the great tutorial! Whats the name of the song at the very end of each of your videos?

I can do them standing on flat ground easy, but for some reason as soon as I have a little bit of speed I freeze and seem to be unable to get off the ground. Any tips?

I jump off my toe edge for grip, currently practicing to pop off the tail instead now both are easy. I do them on flat ground while riding. You just need to committ, it's mental. You're not learning if you're not falling trying something new.

I had the same problem. To pvercome it for me, I'd wind and throw my arms so that I'm forced to just do it. Starting small/slow helped me, like doing it right before getting in the crowds of the lift line.

Landed my 1st FS 180 yesterday!!! The trick for me was to start trying it traversing the slope which is way less scary. Once I got comfortable doing that I took it to a jump and nailed it!!

Nice. Trick to any 180 moving is try a 90 first. Gets you used to keeping your edge up and you can scuff the rest of the way round. Will help you with the mental aspect of backside too

Hi thanks for the video, I really struggle on the little jump I cant jump more than an quarter or an inch😂. I can move a little tiny bit from the snow. Any advice to have a jump little high so I can turn?
@nickwoodward81910 ай бұрын
Think more about raising your knees. A pop will never be that high without that or a jump, and lifting your knees helps with stability, grabs etc
