Take the second snare strike and hit the second rack tom. You'll have a full Soca Groove from Trinidad. Been playing in Steelband/Soca bands for over 30 years. I appreciate everything you're doing I enjoy your tutorials just wanted to offer some suggestions.

Cool! Yep agree that's a great sound. Obvs here am recreating the groove exactly as it appears in the Grade 7 book - where it's all snare. Thanks for watching and commenting 🙏🏻

I play in a Post-punk/Classic Alternative cover band and in between sets I will break out in a Soca groove and it immediately turns heads and the ladies start dancing, Switch it up a bit and make it sidestick on the snare and ride and no one can resist lol

Fun to see the grooves picked apart that I've always been carrying around with me without giving its history or origins too much thought. What's the deal with those grades and what does 7 signify here? This particular groove in isolation seems like something for high-beginner/intermediate students, but I have no baseline to compare this against, and I wouldn't know what really to do with that knowledge either, lol. Where do these grades bottom out and what is expected from the most difficult ones? What is actually being tested?
