Taking the social media dance craze to a new level, NBC is joining forces with international superstar Shakira on the exciting dance-challenge series "Dancing with Myself."
Every week, a new group of fun-loving dancers from all walks of life and of all ages compete in a series of high-energy dance challenges that are designed and demonstrated by the show's celebrity creators Shakira, Nick Jonas, Liza Koshy and host Camille Kostek. Isolated in their own pods, contestants have a short time to learn the new routines, add their unique flare and then perform in front of a live audience.
Universal Television Alternative Studio, a division of Universal Studio group, and Irwin Entertainment are on board to produce the series. For Irwin Entertainment, John Irwin, Dave Kuba, Eli Frankel and Ben Thursby-Palmer are executive producers. Jaime Levine executive produces the series alongside Shakira. "Dancing with Myself" is licensed by NBCUniversal Formats, a division of Universal Studio Group.

@@supernovaCH1 have you ever watched bellydancing solos of Shakira? On her song Ojos Asi, for exemple? She can clearly bellydance, she follows the rythm like a professionnal! I don't mean that she is the best bellydancer in the world, first because she has not made it her job. But she has a lot of technique and rythm and she has practised it since the age of 5. You don't need to be the very best of bellydancer to give classes. Shakira definitely was born to dance.

Sorry. She is not. Her technic and the way she explain it is not correct which tells me she does not understand the technic and the muscles envolved in each movement. She has a great feeling and presence on stage. Amazing artist and dancer though. Above all she is humble in what she does which for me is more interesting. But to say she is the best belly dancer is to not know the craft itself. Is fine you don't have to! Great you enjoy she her dancing, that is the most important.

I dance and teach over 20 years. So I know the craft and the business. First things first. It is not Bellydance. It's Oriental Dance form the Arabic term Raks el Sharki (Dance of the East!). The authentic dance style is from Egypt. Hence I rather perfer to say that I perform Egyptian Dances which includes folk dances, classic dances, cabaret style dances, etc... You also have other countries where you can find Oriental Dance, each with its own vocabulary and style. Turkish Oriental, Lebanese Oriental, Greek Oriental, etc... As so, today we also use the term MENAHT Dances (Middle Eastern, North African, Helenic and Turkish Dances). What you guys see in America it is called American Cabaret Style which is a fusion of all of these dances with modern dances such as jazz, ballet, etc. Regarding Shakira, she is a very good dancer but her Oriental Dance technic is not perfect and should not be considerer Oriental Dance at all. She indeed has incorporated some movements on her routine some are look a like but not considerer Oriental Dance, some are not correctly performed, and others are ok. Her arms are not styled and framed correctly acording to Oriental Dance. Though she has all the potencial to be a great Oriental Dancer and one of the best she is not an Oriental Dancer, she is Shakira an extremelly sucessful artist. That is ok but to say that she is an Oriental Dancer it is not correct. I reckon for the regular eye these are details only who is a professional can catch up with but as a professional dancer I have to educate, other way the public won' tunderstand what we do. Whe that happes the public does not consume Oriental Dance as an art form. It would be the same to watch Salloon Dances and say they are dancing samba, salsa or tango... they are not!!! I will leave an example of a foreigner dancing at one of the biggest if not the bigest Raks Festivals in Egypt, Ahlan Wa Sahlan. This is what body posture and correction in Oriental Dance should look like, as a foreigner. Egyptians dance differently.
