That was awesome. Very nice work, that you make look super easy. Even though it had to have taken years to get that good.

If you practice them a few minutes a day, probably 3-4 weeks to feel comfortable with them. a couple months and they would be very natural. I cant say I bother practicing anymore. But I can lay off for weeks and come back to it. During my slow periods I go days without painting anything. Even weeks. Around the end of the year towards christmas though im painting 7 days a week. These 4 excercises though are fabulous at getting a great deal of ground covered. Combined with some redactive techniques you can get a picture pretty lifelike really fast.

well about 25 minutes. So i'm not sure its a "doodle" but it definitely is not a full blown painting for me :) Its just on plain old cheap printer copy paper. :)

yup thats where texture starts to matter. But its a fine line. women and makeup have very minor subtle textures. young people less and subtle .. and babies have this almost translucent skin texture going on. The airbrush is really good at making things smooth.. we have to make those things not so smooth :)

You should be able to transition pretty easy to them. Most t guys have great control already. Canvas you’ll just spray a bit lighter and maybe reduce a little but not a lot. The downside of canvas is the weave will catch overspray even more than a t unless you gesso them. Which my basic canvases don’t pay enough for the extra time Thanks!

How did I miss this video? I've been driven to create texture in my work for decades to keep from having the typical smooth finish of airbrush painting. Excellent freehand techniques here that can be combined with texture stencils. My thumbnail shows some "stone" texture I made up behind the woman's face. Of the four techniques you show, the one I used most was a variation of no. 1, the figure eight, that I just called the shaky hand texture. Essentially just random wiggling of the airbrush while working the trigger. By the way....I bought one of those Creos PS-771 airbrushes and am very impressed with it....I'd actually recommend it over an Iwata Micron especially for the cost.

You can with a combination of these and texture stencils really knock out a lot of depth very very quickly. I need to change the thumbnail it doesn’t get a lot of views. But I’ll probably remake this video in a better format at some point. Thanks!

Again, amazing work and learning so much! I take it if you were to do highlights it would just be a much lighter tone used to show the lighting?
@TheAIRspace
@TheAIRspace 3 жыл бұрын
If I were to highlight on this.. I would have used an eraser. But this was just done monochrome on printer paper. Highlighting with lighter colors is tricky because blue shift. But it's very doable. As a fact I do it a lot. Just know white on skin tones will take on an ugly blue grey tone. I'm sure I addressed that in bits and pieces, but I really should dedicate an entire video to it

Couldn’t you call the x pattern ‘cross-hatching’?
@TheAIRspace
@TheAIRspace 10 ай бұрын
well you could.. but cross hatching is for shading. this is for texture. Cross hatching at least in drawing is a bit more crisp and defined. With its own distinct look.
