I've been curling for the best part of 3 years. This video is a god send. When I was practicing sweeping when I first started, I was more towards behind stone. And I also swept with my kipper off as I mainly did mixed doubles/ doubles competitions so that's where that came from. I am now doing the drill you said to do. Oh my god why did I not find this earlier!! Thank you :)

Real glad you mentioned two grippers. I prefer that so I can judge the speed of the rock better.

As a new curler, the hardest part of sweeping for me has been trying to remember to breathe through my nose. Made harder by wearing a mask. I've had a hard time catching my breath after a hard sweep if I breathe through my mouth and the heart rate monitor shows me at 150-155 bpm. When I remember to breathe properly heart rate is down in the low 120's.

Subject suggestion for a future video: How to Watch Curling. By that I mean a guide for an armchair viewer of what to watch for and what is and _isn't_ possible. For example, when I first started watching, I had no understanding of the "vocabulary" of shots that were possible for a team to try, like how rocks stay straight when thrown fast or curl when they're thrown slow and how that means they can or can't get to a certain spot or a kill an opposing stone, etc.

Welcome back! Great video! Unfortunately with covid lock downs we don't have ice this season to try it out. Good curling!

I would love to hear your thoughts on directional sweeping. Nothing on the web about it that I can find. Must be top secret!

I'm also interested in this I'm a firm believer in it but I'm sometimes I feel like it's not doing anything.

^ Was going to ask the same question. I know a few of us have tried just practicing on the kitchen floor and broken a Swiffer or two that way, lol! I saw a short "Story" video on Facebook the other day, though I some how doubt that was a recommended drill, ha. (Though if it is I would love another look.)

As you are doing the foot work are leaning on the broom with with your body weight pushing down to understand what I’m trying to say let’s picture in our minds the sweeper poses like a tripod holds the broom in a proper manner looks down on the ice and with their feet push along the ice do I make any sense I’m trying to understand how this works thanks for sharing your videos
