My spinner came yesterday so I could practice my program off ice, and I slammed into the corner of my wall and have a cut on my head. I just watched this video and now know how not to smash my head into a wall. Thanks coach Julia!

Thank you very much! I ordered an edea spinner a few days ago, your tutorial will be really helpful! Do you have specific tips to practice with an edea spinner?

Vincent Biarneix The main thing is that edea spinners tend to put you back on your heel. So be very careful about staying up on the ball off your foot where your rocker would be.

Ho coach Julia! Thanks for the amazing explanations as always. I found that on the spinner I find balance spinning clockwise, while on the ice my spins work counter clockwise. I really don’t understand why 😅 I will practice both 😊 greetings from Italy 🇮🇹❤️

This metal spinner has helped me to be able to do my one-foot spin on the ice now! I can find my balance quicker plus get my free left leg (I spin clockwise) where it needs to be to help me balance, and I'm not as wobbly! Its surely worth the $$. Thanks so much! Happy skating, Joyce from Utah.

Thanks Julia, another great video. Do you have any advice to manage dizziness? I limit my session to 20 minutes with max 3 repetitions and 90 seconds breaks in between. Interestingly, I am ok while practicing but 45 minutes after I stop, I start feeling nauseous. This can last up to 3 hours…It sucks! But I won’t stop practicing. Any advice would be much appreciated.

If we start with the knee bent to mimic the LO entry, at which point do we straighten it, on the hook or the pull in. Or do we keep it slightly bent and press down into the floor ?

Got my spinner!! Day 1: my foot kept collapsing inwards & dumping me off around 270* - mitigated by wearing shoes with arch support. Now when my foot collapses inwards I can bring it back on balance without being dumped off. Still working on keeping the rest of my muscles over my axis :D
@Mekeweissame3 жыл бұрын
Day 2: I read in the replies that your weight should be on the ball of your foot so I practiced with my heel slightly lifted off the spinner. It was hecking hard but I think I improved between the start of the hour and the end.
@coldservings3 жыл бұрын
Got the spinner you recommend. On ice I've been working on my two foot spin which is still very "hit or miss" (I happened to "hit" when they were testing at the end of the last class block so I've officially "passed" Adult 5). Right now, I'm just trying to get to be able to consistently do one turn in the first position you show. Mostly I manage half to three-quarters of a turn before I'm not able to stay on the spinner (choice is step off or fall down). I figure I'll get there eventually.

One question Julia: I'm starting spinning but: If I'm right handed am I supposed to use my right leg to spin or the left? Because i feel more confident spinning counter clockwise with my left feet than the right and I'm confused. Xoxo. You're awesome 😘

I think that’s normal because I’m left handed but when I spin counter clockwise it is on my right foot

Any tips to avoid rocking back on heel? I am still learning and this video has been so helpful but I notice I end up going back on my heel a lot.
@CoachJulia4 жыл бұрын
That is a hard one to answer. It is really a matter of developing and fine-tuning the muscles in your ankle and calf so that you can balance on just the ball of your foot. perhaps doing some calf raises, and toe raises to build those muscles up might help.

I searched for the Jerry spinner, but here in Canada it's $80+ to order. Instead, I then got 6" lazy susan ball bearing plate, cut two 8.5"x8.5"x1/4" high density two, and glued these together with E6000 glue. Then added anti-slip tape, so have a virtually identical spinner for 1/3 of the cost. It spins like crazy, I can't yet skate more than basic forward, so really hoping on learning balance :-)

Hello from Sweden. I bought this spinner (from the US ) to my two daughters who skate after watching your video. It arrived today. They are quite good at spins on the ice but are having some problems with the camel spin. They keep falling off this spinner and having hard finding balance even in one foot spin. But it is the first day of practicing on it ;-) . How long should we expect it to take before they master some kind of balance and can try backward spins and camel spins?

So...I know practising at speed is not important as it's more about stability, but how fast/how long can you as a professional hold a spin on this spinner? :D Just asking out of curiousity. I myself will spend the next weeks trying to not fall off that thing haha
@CoachJulia4 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I am not super fast at it. I’ve used them in the past, but I’ve never really focused on perfecting spins on it. I am usually at the rink 5/6 days a week so not really interested in more work when I get home. 😆 But the pandemic and stay at home orders have made many people look for alternatives, me included. 😁

So you keep your foot flat? I was hoping the spinner would help me find my sweet spot, but perhaps none of the spinners do that. How is it practicing turns on the Jerry's?
@CoachJulia4 жыл бұрын
With the Jerry’s Spinner, you do keep your foot flat. It is also good for practicing jump takeoffs, but not so much for practicing turns, like Three Turns or Choctaw’s.

Really helpful video, except for a left-handed person. Right handed people just don't realize that the instruction of "Just do the reverse" for lefties simply does not cut it. For something like this, please find a left handed person to demonstrate the actual arm / leg positions for your left-handed viewers. I'm a lefty and it's the same problem in golf. Just saying 'reverse' is truly a SMH moment.
