Working up to this. As an older learner skater anything that makes my stride more efficient has to be a good thing!

It's amazing how easy you make this look. I am just about to start learning how to skate but watching the advanced skating that you did is just incredible and you are very good at breaking down a movement step by step.

Just started practising double push myself and also posted a vid. As an older mainly ice skater I have to admit or isn't that simple to learn but the beginning is there, thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the viseo. Have purchased smaller cuff boots and its taking so long to get back to what i was doing before. Your videos help. Can i ask about the classic postion. I find my lungs are not free to breath and am fighting keeping curved back and breathing. You do not have problems with this at all? Also lower back pain, what does this infer with regard positioning of the classic stance. Thank you in advance.

Thanks for the video. I thought I could kinda do the double push motion, but now I realize it wasn’t correct because I didn’t feel like I was actually pushing with the underpush. Now I know what to focus on. This might seem like a weird video request, but could you talk about skating technique when you are tired and at the end of your energy? My form always falls apart at that point and I don’t know the best way to keep going.
@thorupviktor
@thorupviktor 2 жыл бұрын
The idea of doing the same technical drills over and over, as well as being focused on smooth skating whenever you're training, is hopefully going to make it natural for you to be skating in an efficient way, even when the mind switches off and the legs are blowing apart.

@ViktorThorup can you explain where you’re saving energy when using this technique? Is there specific muscle groups that should be relaxed?
@paul_k_7351
@paul_k_7351 2 жыл бұрын
I think where it saves energy is that in-line loses a lot of speed to friction (unlike ice), so when you glide without double pushing you are actually slowing down on each step. By using double push you are pushing throughout your whole stride so you keep your speed up without needing to get back to the speed you were at at the beginning of each stride. There is also the side benefit you mention of using slightly different muscles to propel you forward.
@thorupviktor

@@paul_k_7351 Very well explained! Basically much easier to carry momentum from one stroke to the next :)

Many thanks for this tutorial! Just a quick question, Is it possible to learn/do the double push on hard boots? It seems that speed skaters are not using hard boots at all, so I suspect that there is an ankle movement that is impeded by hard boots?

Practical for anybody seeking to go faster ;)
@blackyraypatrick9041
@blackyraypatrick9041 Жыл бұрын
More or less. First of all its harder maintaining the double push on slower speeds since your ankles are limited in flexivility. I can only double push while going fast which will mostly be on long trails out of the City.

Sick vid. Raced on 5 wheels as a kid and looking to get back into it. Looks like the sport has evolved past a Bont Sharky and Attitude frames haha. Man I don’t know where to begin. 3 or 4 wheels? I see some guys prefer one over the other? What’s the difference? Someone kind explaining?

I don't know. I use inline to maintain ski skills and conditioning (this was the original marketing angle). So why should I learn something impossible on skis. OTOH anything that builds coordination, balance, and especially pushing the comfort-zone translates to all sports.

is this even worth trying on "Fitness Skates" or generic commonly-found Craigslist skates from the peak of inline, the year 2000. (almost always 80mm wheels and high plastic boot)

Hi Viktor,Is it correct to think that the faster you skate, the better your double push will be? thanks for the great video.
@paul_k_7351
@paul_k_7351 2 жыл бұрын
I would say, no. You do need a certain amount of minimum speed to do the DP but you should be able to do it slowly, it’s actually harder to do it when going faster because it takes a fair bit of coordination.

Stupid question: is it even possible to learn double-push at low speeds? I understand that at low speed the underpush curve will be very small, but it seems that at slow speeds (and large wheels) it's just much harder to learn.
@thorupviktor
@thorupviktor 2 жыл бұрын
It is harder and it's likely to be less efficient as well. That being said, as long as you can get enough lean to be able to push underneath yourself, it's possible :)
