I like this approach, it's more playful than I've had before. There's an art class local to me but the teacher really emphasises the realism, and I just wanna sketch roughly, I'm put off by endless shading and refining, I just wanna draw stuff well enough for people to recognise what I'm drawing. This feels a lot more open ended and less pressure to do it perfectly.

Not sure whether he already did faces (Just started to watch) But IMO try to simplify things (as he said in this video) at first. Instead of a detailled nose, you might just want to draw the most distinguishing marks. Don't draw your own face, it's pretty hard, instead grab some random pictures from the almighty internet, maybe even facebook, look at their most distinguishing marks, and draw those. Marks you could pay attention to: headshape, especially chin Shape of the eyes, noseline, general direction of hair, eyebrow line, by extention hair direction mouthline, upperlips, lower lips, ears if you can see some, accessories and more Face proportions might also help you. The eyes are actually in the middle of our headshape, nose ends at 1/4 of headshape, mouth at 1/8, and if the mouth is resting, then where the corner of the mouth is, is there, where you should draw the eyes.

I always thought the only things I can draw right are hands, but now I see I've been doing that wrong too lol. I usually just look at objects as a mess of lines and try following those lines, rather than shapes and maybe that's why my drawing sucks haha. Great video, really helped clear things up for me!

Awesome! I have never ever even thought about drawing my own hand. I just tried it and it came out very good. I have not drawn since school... 25 years ago. You are a great teacher. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Amazing! I'm starting the course today. Already bought pencils, eraser, sketchbook... I'm sure it's gonna work out and improve my oil painting skills, God willing. Greetings and God bless you, Brandon.

The best part is how over 1 million viewers first episode, then 800k less next episode, then 200k less third episode. If you can't even manage to watch 4 youtube videos and do the work asked in each one, don't be upset if you're not doing speed paintings with ease lazyasses LOL. Excellent videos SchaeferARt

THIS. I saw exactly the same. I always painted with short lines and I didn't know it was called sketching and with every video I learn a lot. I actually started liking my crappy sketches.

Just because they have less views doesn't mean they all quit. Most could have gone to another series and just didn't want to stick to this one. People probably just reccomend the first video a lot since it is a very great intro to drawing.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THOSE VIDEOS! Even thought I just watched 2 vids. I am so happy that you made them. I used to cry a lot and be mad because everytime I draw something. It looks like a sh**. And I used to think that drawing these simple stuff are boring and stuff. But it's actually really helpfull to understand the shapes, shadows and other things. Hopefully one day I get better even thought now I'm 13. Please continue making them! Love this channel!!!!! ❤❤❤❤✌👊

These videos are amazing. I’m so bad at drawing I don’t draw because I’m embarrassed of it. I have always wanted to learn and get better but had given up. These are free easily available lessons that are high quality. I have 2 papers drawn from these lessons of what you taught. I hope to continue to learn and eventually be a good drawer as a hobby. I truely thank you for making these.

Seeing how to see things with shape and demension has helped my sketches the more shape and not look so flat. The squinting trick with shadows really helped!

I'm so glad you put together this series. I haven't drawn for fun since...high school? I'm 38 now and you gave me the courage to pick up a pencil again and start doing some basic sketching. I think having some sort of art in your life, music or visual arts like this is good for the soul.
