Whenever I asked other artists how do I get better at drawing, one of the worst pieces of advice I've been given was "Just draw/just practice" Well, I've been "just drawing" for about ten years and I'm still at an amateur level. What I meant was HOW do you practice? What techniques do you incorporate? What are the steps? To me, it's just a condescending way of saying "Figure it out on your own."
@SchaeferArt5 жыл бұрын
Read drawing books, go to the library if possible. No need to even buy books. Read them, draw everything in them. Draw your surroundings. Learn to render form and light through shading - put the techniques in said books to use. Start from simple objects and build to complex. If you did anything else for 10 years, do you think you'd improve? It seems you should start evaluating what you're doing and try different things to solve the problem. Find ways to solve the problem. The internet is an amazing resource for books, videos, articles and all kinds of things on drawing. I'm sure you can use this to your advantage. I hope it goes well and you find what you're looking for. To be honest, this is my method, I did all of these things I mentioned above including drawing from life and my surroundings.
@cultescapee87405 жыл бұрын
@@SchaeferArt I appreciate your advice. And I'll do my best
@SubNorm4L5 жыл бұрын
There is not a clear way at all. That's why they say "just practice". You need to find what you suck at first. It may be perspective, values or rendering. Read about the topic that's the most hard for you and just practice that, NOTHING ELSE. Then when you're decent at that fundamental, switch it up for another. The fundamentals of drawing are like a wheel, you keep rotating them and going back to them.

Thank you Brandon! I've thought about learning to sketch for about 50 years (yes, really) and always thought it's too hard, can't be bothered, can't even draw a stick figure etc. But yesterday I decided (out of the blue) that I'd actually try. I want to be able to sketch concepts to illustrate ideas and metaphors. I watched your first video and was amazed that I could sketch a pretty nice sphere! I just wanted to let you know that you have a wonderful style. Inspirational. Thank you for doing what you do.
@ajayyss5 жыл бұрын
I never understood what the point of sketching was, I thought It just looked messy so I always fully committed. I really wanted to draw but because of my hard commits it always looked trashy so I never could make an habit. Now at 21 years old you just explained _why_ people sketch. Not to make random lines but *'to find the right line within the lines'* and the with vs without sketch, for the first time I tried the damn thing and I've just drawn a perfect circle for the first time in my life and it feels amazing.. I feel so ashamed. You have my thanks dude!

I've always used different forms of art as an expression of myself my whole life. A couple years ago, after several medical problems, I had a stroke. I was only 48. I've been terrified to begin again for fear of what I might not remember. This online tutorial was amazingly effective at getting me back to holding my tools. Also, assuming I know nothing, I don't have to feel stupid if I can't remember something I learned in freshman art. Thank you for a place to begin again.

Thank you for bringing this lesson down to the utmost beginner level. I am 64 years old and am starting to learn to draw. Most videos I have watched regarding "beginners" is so far past my knowledge and confidence level that I almost stopped before I even began because it was far too intimidating for novice me. Today, I will begin with my new found confidence to draw a circle with shading. Fantastic!

I'm already so excited to learn sketching! And I'm from India being a 21 years old girl who has had tympanoplasty just 7 days ago and Today it's 28 july 2024...as I have to give my ear some rest so I had to give up the idea of watching movies and so I thought to start learning sketching as I'm a reader and I've always assumed how an artist would feel by sketching... I'm doing this for myself so that if in future when I'm 30 and any age and I get to see the beautiful person or moment or scenario then how would it feel to draw...wow! God bless me and those who have the urge to learn sketching ❤

My notes: 1. Don't be committed... draw multiple lines and darken the most appropriate shape. 2. Its not gonna be perfect when you draw it the first time... so do not commit. 3.Find the light source and how many light sources , where is light coming from... that will help you make the sketch 3D.... making shadows. 4.make the arrow from light source. 5.Get rid of the perfectionist mentality and get into training mode.

I suggest learning to draw lines and curves and at lest one or two sketches daily. When I practice, I try to do at least 2 hours of practice and I'm proud to say that I've been able to do that pretty well. And if there's anything I can say that I've been able to actually pick up, its having fun drawing for the first time with what I try to sketch. Before I'd just get upset but now I can smile and laugh as I learn. So yeah. Sketches,line practice and maybe pick up some pins as well, And I recommend going to drawabox.com. That's where I've been going for a while now.

BENACHOUR Abdou I can't see it ? :(
@dantedelgadillo70907 жыл бұрын
BENACHOUR Abdou remember, every single thing in the world, anyone can do at amazing skill levels, anyone can, every single thing is just about learning and just constant training, from drawing, to video game pro, from martial artist, hard training > talent, every thing is just like learning to ride a bike, did you thought you needed talent to ride a bike? At first you'll suck and probably fall, maybe only last 10 seconds before losing balance, but with just same constant practice, you will just improve and improve, same thing goes for everything in the world, even drawing, its only amount of constant training, dont try being perfectionist either, remember ad you learn to ride a bike, at the start you suck and dont do that great, same for art, dont take so long trying to make it really good, let your skills naturally become better with just constant training, and be satisfied with your drawings, just like a muscle, you work it out and then you get tired, but then through time it becomes stronger and you can do more
