It's because it's an inclonometer and not a slip/skid indicator as we know it today. Try and think of the physics involved in a slip or skid, and how they would push the fluid around (hence the bubble movement) and it makes more sense

Unfortunately Requiem is not quite correct here, the bubble *is* a slip indicator, the same as one would find on a WWII bird or steam gauge GA plane but without the inclinometer/bank indicator that said slip indicator is normally paired with. The bubble in the slip indicator shows the degree and direction of slip, and you want to put in rudder in the *opposite* direction from which the bubble is deviated. So if the bubble is to the left, you want right rudder, and vice versa, to keep the bubble centered, just as if you were flying a Cessna or a WWII bird. If the bubble is right in the middle, then your plane is coordinated. The German planes in FC are the opposite--they have a (very shitty) inclinometer/bank indicator, but no slip indicator.
