Re-engaging with the game after a two year absence. . . Don’t know how faithful the flight model is but this is such a pleasant airplane to fly. The advice on the video made it easier to get started, of course, but good cockpit visibility, the engine doesn’t automatically put itself in the self-devouring mode if you go into a dive, smooth handling etc. Kind of slow, though, not a plane for a congenitally bad dogfighter to take into a fight.

Very much appreciate that this stuff is still here after all of these years. Despite that fact that it does not get anywhere near the attention it deserves. Decided I ought to dust off the Spitfire after about 2 1/2 years out of the game, and this is very helpful. One thing - wing-mounted guns. I think I noticed slight rudder kicks while firing on some occasions. Seems like this is to compensate for the guns shooting wide at anything but the convergence set range or very close to it.

Great video mate! I am planning to buy GNX WWII Throttle + Gladiator NXT EVO mainly for IL-2. Do you think I will have enough buttons/levers I need for all the plane controls? Option B, which is more expensive, is to buy, apart from the joystick, the GNX Dual THQ + SEM-V Combo + the WWII THQ Grip as add-on in case option A is not enough. Thanks!

Fantastic video. Just remember, the wings don't come up while you are in the landing area. The ground crew have to put pins in place and what not. Once you are out of the zone you will stop, hands up on the canopy so they see your hands, and then the crew moves in. Once it's good to go, then wings come up.

A couple tips from someone that has a lot of real traps. Use the auto throttle control function in the airplane. If you have the Thrustmaster throttle, It's the small red button under your left ring finger. Once activated it will show up in the HUD as ATC. This will make it much easier to get aboard. Now use pitch to control your glideslope. Once you pick up the meatball on final, try not to be reactive to the meatball, waiting for a high or low indication. Assuming it's close to centered when you pick it up and you're around 700 fpm, flatten your approach with a little back pressure on the stick and look for the meatball to move very slightly above centered and then adjust back to a slightly lower pitch and drive the ball back to centered. Then repeat until touchdown. Now you're controlling the ball not the other way around. This technique was called "Crowning the Ball." years ago and helped me get aboard every time. This technique works also with any airplane flying a glideslope.

Very useful. Things like the defensive barrel roll need to be mastered off-line so you don’t have to think through the maneuver in the middle of a fight.

My only complaint is that the lenght of vectors isn't equivalent to their force (for example, V-lift is same length as weight despite explicitly being a smaller force). Other than that, it's very helpful.
