I cannot express to you how fun it was for me to knit your dishcloth pattern! And, and added BIG PLUS is you taught me how to knit Continental!!😃I’ve been working on leaning the Continental for a while now, but your calm voice and calm knitting I was able to finally do it and I feel like I’ve mastered it this time!! Thank you so much 😊👏👏👏

Thank you so much for your care and thoughtfulness toward your fellow long-time crocheters! Things are really starting to click for me! Your tutorials are terrific! I cannot wait to receive my KnitPicks hooks, so I can trade in my curtain rod-sized needles (that were actually purchased to be used as purse handles lol) and move through your series!

Thank you so much!! I was crocheting for a lifetime before I learned how to knit and was really hoping that I could simplify it a bit for fellow crocheters. So glad it’s clicking for you! Enjoy your new needles - they are lovely!!! And, I truly hope you enjoy the rest of the series :)

Stacy, I want to thank you so much for sharing this tutorial! Many years ago, I tried to learn to knit, only to find myself frustrated with the process. I switched to crochet, which I found to be much easier, and enjoyed making many projects (LOTS of scarves lol! This was in the days before youtube, so not a lot of patterns and tutorials readily available). Then life got in the way, as it often does, and I only recently got back into crochet after a 25-years-or-so hiatus. Now that I've rediscovered my love for crochet, I thought I'd try my hand at knitting again. KZbin introduced me to the Continental-style of knitting, which I immediately took to because of the similarity to crochet in holding the yarn in the left hand. But I was still struggling, particularly with purling, and then I came across your video. You demonstrate everything in such a relaxed and calm manner, and it's easy to follow along. After several practice tries, I finally commited to making this dishcloth, and lo and behold, I completed it! I have yet to wash and block it, but otherwise it's finished, and I couldn't be happier with the result. And what's more, I'm actually ENJOYING knitting now, and it's all thanks to you, and this tutorial. I love your teaching style; you're so warm and compassionate, and it's soothing to listen to you. Your instructions are crystal-clear, and your filming angles and lighting allow the viewer to easily see what you're doing. I see that you also have crochet vids, so I'll definitely be watching those as well, and I'll be following along with your other learn-to-knit projects over time. At 51, I'm a bit late to the crochet/knitting party, but better late than never! A huge hug to you for being you, and for making these videos; thanks for all you do! ❤

I had to take some time to respond to your message - you hit me in the feels and brought a tear of joy to my eyes. Thank you so much for telling me your story - YOU are the reason I do these videos! I remember also being frustrated learning how to knit (after crocheting for about 40 years) and the Continental style really called to me. Only, at the time, I didn't know "Continental" was even a style - I thought I just held my yarn wrong. After visiting my local yarn shop and asking them about it, they told me "It's not wrong; it's Continental!". I'm so happy that you enjoy the videos. Please keep an eye out during December, as I have quite a few patterns coming out this month (one is a beginner knit friendly infinity scarf). Welcome to the wonderful world of knitting (I'll warn you...it's extremely addictive!). 💕

@@handmadebystacyj I can't thank you enough for your presence on youtube, Stacy. Your tutorial is the reason I decided to not give up on knitting, and I'm sooo glad I stuck to it! It DID get easier over time. I must have watched various parts of your tutorial at least a dozen times or more, studying your hands and your technique, trying to emulate your fluid and seemingly effortless knitting style, your soothing voice and nurturing energy encouraging me along the way. One thing that also helped was a tension ring...have you seen those? I bought several from Amazon to try. They come in different styles and you can wear the ring on any finger; you thread your yarn through it, and it helps to control the tension. Tension was my biggest struggle with purling, especially using the Continental method. I was in love with the the knit stitch, but I kept losing tension on the purl, which was maddeningly frustrating. Using the ring made all the difference initially, and because of all the practice, I finally progressed to the point where I don't need it anymore and can do both knitting and purling quite comfortably. But early on the ring was an invaluable crutch and helped me tremendously, along with closely following along with your tutorial, and practice, practice, practice! I knit along with your video for hours, practicing the stitches and pattern over and over until I felt confident enough to actually make the dishcloth, and I'm so darn proud of that thing! I had been planning to use it in the kitchen, but I was reluctant to ruin it by using it to wipe up spills. So after I finally got around to weaving in the ends and washing and blocking it, I tried it as a washcloth on my face, and wow! I'm impressed by the absorbancy of it and the soft texture on my sensitive skin, so it's staying in the bathroom for now. I'm planning to make a set for both the kitchen and bathroom in appropriate colors, and I'll be following your subsequent tutorials to mix up the styles. I can't wait to get started, because you're so right....after getting the hang of knitting, it definitely is addictive! There's something about it that I find even more addictive and satisfying than crochet, and I never thought I'd say that, ever lol. I know I sound like an obsessed fangirl lol! But I am truly indebted to you, and can't wait to watch and follow along with more of your tutorials, both knit and crochet. I'm working on a few crochet projects atm, but after the holidays I'm hoping for some quality knitting time...I need my fix! :D Thanks again for being you, and doing what you're doing...you're appreciated more than you know. Happy Holidays!

@@witchywoman4139 - You are so kind! I've heard of the tension rings, but haven't tried them. However, I've been teaching a girlfriend of mine how to knit and may suggest that she try them. She just learned how to purl, so that may help her as she's learning. I don't know why I never thought of using the washcloth for our faces. I'm so happy that it worked out for you and was so soft. I'll have to keep that in mind for all the handmade dishcloths I have here at the house :) You know, it's funny, I'm in the same boat as you. I never thought I'd ever say that knitting would become a little more addictive to me than crochet...but, it has! Although crochet is still extremely enjoyable, I love the meditation that comes with knitting. And there's something about how interesting the stitches can be simply by doing a combination of knits and purls or adding in a little extra technique. I hope you have the happiest of holidays and thank you for bringing so much joy to me!

But, if she struggles I'll mention the Boy, I mean Toy with an E tension ring to her 😉. One more row...one more row...this is the last one, I swear...oh, just one more row...I sooo get where you're coming from. Welcome to the knitting hobby! While you’re still learning to knit I recommend using wood needles because they help hold the yarn. Once you’re a confident knitter, then try the metal. At least, that’s what worked for me :)

@handmadebystacyj

The cable itself is 14". Since this is worked flat, you can use almost any length cable. You can also try with straight needles if you don't have circulars (I'd just make sure that they're at least 10" needles).

If you'd like to look at other folks that do tutorials, I highly recommend Marly Bird, VeryPink and Studio Knit - they all helped me when I was learning.
