So excited to find this!! I always want to buy beautiful locks but I never knew whether I’d have to process them or now- this opens up a new world and a new obsession o no

After watching this video I feel that the locks I've been holding off on spinning now have a chance at becoming yarn! This video made me feel comfortable and far more confident than some of the others I have watched.

I've yet to spin my own yarn but i'm looking at videos to learn. Yours is by far the best! So informative and easy to understand. You've made me feel like i CAN do this. Thank you, i can't wait to try !!

Thank you very much. Your teaching style, with a lot of assurances and humor, is really wonderful. I feel more confident in trying lock spinning the giant bags of Mohair locks I have.

Thanks Virginia. I was unfamiliar with that wheel and was curious - interesting orifice! I am all set with a Lendrum + all the accessories. I am wondering too if you could say what type project you might recommend for locks spun this way?

I would love to see you do this for alpaca locks....it's what I'm playing with. They don't wanna become fluffy like this.

Amazing video. The information is helpful and not overly technical. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.

could you say again what wheel you are using AND what sort of project would one do with a yarn spun this way that would show off the beauty and texture of the locks?
@theyellowfarm10 жыл бұрын
I am using a Majacraft Aura, but you can use any wheel you are comfortable with, however you will need a large orifice so that the lumpy bumpy parts don't get stuck. You can practice with a regular flywheel, just notice when it isn't loading on to your bobbin you may have to stop treadling and check to see where it is caught and unstick the yarn and then continue. Most wheels do offer a large, art yarn type of flyer to accommodate really textured yarns. Have fun!

I find spinning locks way easier, as I hate carding 😂

Thank you very much for explaining and showing! It only leaves me with a question: doesnt it need to be twined? I would love to know pls? 🙂🌸🌺
@theyellowfarm7 жыл бұрын
If you get good at it, you don't need to ply (twist it with another strand) but you do have to practice this. You can ply it and often people do, sometimes with a thin thread, sometimes with another single and sometimes they ply it on itself, which makes a super bulky yarn!

Thanks for this video. I can see this technique is not for me. Your yarn is beautiful, but I'm too much of a control freak to spin something so lumpy. Maybe someday, but not today.
@theyellowfarm6 жыл бұрын
keep in mind that you can spin a much finer, and much less textured lock spin. I too am a control freak and found it freeing to learn to let go sometimes :)
@singe0diabolique6 жыл бұрын
I would have no use for that textured yarn though. Not for me.

I'm new to this, and much of what you're explaining is out of frame.
