Good thing you didn't "blow off" the birch seeds as these are a major asset to the image. My initial reaction to the leaves would be to remove the distraction, but I actually prefer the image with the leaves.

Another Heaton fan here that's come to check out your work. Really nice video Simon. Tom was right, you certainly do nail your images. Watching your older films in random order... I agree with your basic premise here. We all feel cheered when the sun shines - so there is clearly something that can be explored with a camera. I think the second image is stronger with the leaves than without. The first one - I'd categorise as Challenging. I personally like the high key and atmospheric qualities, and it's exactly the sort of briefly glimpsed detail I might well recall at the end of a leisurely day, but then I have been consciously trying to broaden my visual understanding for some time. I think this shot would be dificult to 'sell' to the proverbial man in the street. Which is a comment, not a criticism, and certainly not something to avoid 🙂

Hi David. Absolutely that image would be a hard sell. I mostly take images to satisfy my creative urges these days. I stopped thinking about saleability years ago when the bottom fell out of the photo agency stock market. Today it's more about personal creative growth. Some images work out really well, some not so, but I do enjoy the whole exploratory process.

Long time sub here, and a fellow summer lover! A very enjoyable video Simon. I’m not sure TH got called out here at all, more likely he created the headline as clickbait, but I’m glad it’s trickled down some followers for your channel, and I hope your workflow has helped him, as he claims.

Three years to be exact Simon. He held out a big hand in doing that but yes, it's doing ok for him too!

Subscribed, lovely images Simon btw. I like your positive calm manner and advice for stopping and taking in the scene. The first image was my favourite. The second one was also great, I preferred the leaves left in and the scattered seedlings were a must to include.

Another subscriber from following Thomas, so glad I've found your channel, Simon. I fell out of love with my photography over the last year, probably due to lockdown, but this has inspired me to dust off my kit once more, so I thank you for that. I really loved the image with the leaves kept in.

Perhaps you just thought you fell out of love with it Mark. If you were watching Thomas's channel, the spark must have still been there and perhaps always will.

This is Australia 364 days a year. No fog. No mist. Enjoyed the video and gave me a couple of things to think about. Thanks Simon.

Like others I am here because of watching Thomas Heaton. I am only halfway through this video and already hooked. Your first image was stunning and has made me take stock of what is important in an image. You have got it so right. Thank you for re-inspiring me.
