Great stuff Mark. Very helpful indeed. By the way , I've been painting with oils since I was 9 years old and Am 57 now. I enjoy and use the OPEN acrylics today along with oils and use charcoal a lot but who on earth , gave this video a thumbs down eh ? Trust me , whoever you are , you have an extremely limited idea of what it takes to construct a painting and absolutely NO idea as to what it takes to try and pass on and inspire others to create. Sorry Mark . It just got in my whistle.

Great tutorial, thank you again. You know at some stage you're going to have to frame that shirt - abstract of surfers on choppy seas or something. I've not picked up my brushes for a few decades. Now I'm retired I'm hoping to begin again - thank you for the inspiration to start and I appreciate the smaller scale you're using in this video. Sometimes a huge blank canvas is the thing that stops me from trying but perhaps beginning with a smaller canvas and blocking in as you show here will get me over that daunting first step.
@ExploreAcrylics
@ExploreAcrylics 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks crashq :D Very kind words! It's always easier to start smaller. Definitely practise your techniques and colour mixing on a smaller surface. And actually, I often say to students to have a smaller canvas next to their bigger canvas just to practise techniques on before "committing" to a larger surface. Good luck!

Thank you for doing a tutorial using more subdued and moody colors. The wave is striking! I'm wondering, have you experienced much of a difference between French ultramarine blue and ultramarine blue? I've been using ultramarine blue (Golden acrylics) and have a terrible time getting the color I need when I use it alone or mixed. It's almost always too violet even when I attempt to tone it down.
@ExploreAcrylics
@ExploreAcrylics 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind comments! I only ever use French Ultramarine Blue from Atelier - so I'm not sure of the difference sorry! But if I ever need to cool it down at all I use a bit of Pthalo Blue :)

Hi Mark, great video thank you...I shall attempt a wave now...just a question about your edges of your canvas. I notice you don't paint the edge when you are doing your picture, do you then paint it a plain colour on the final stage.

There are some techniques and tricks I use to help with this. Keeping the paint mobile with water (without diluting the pigment too much) allows you to move it around. Atelier Interactive stays especially mobile and can then be "unlocked" if it starts to dry out with their fabulous product called Unlocking Formula. You can also wet the back of the canvas to help keep the paint mobile too. It's definitely easier working with a smaller canvas and using the paints fairly quickly :)
