Hi Jim! I've always wanted to play banjo because i just felt it's my kind of instrument to play. After watching a couple of your videos I deceided to buy one finally, it came in monday. Damn, that took a while right? Now it's saturday and guess what? I can play cripple creek! (without having much time to practice!). Never thought i was able to play banjo so easy. I want to thank you very very much and i'm looking forward to the next lesson. Greetings from the Netherlands:)

Hey jim I was wondering if you have any tips for playing melodic notes in a song while also keeping the rhythm and chords Say for example a song like on the road again ( not a common bluegrass tune but a great one none the less ) would you play the melody or the chords through the verses? I hope this question makes sense
@JimPankey3 жыл бұрын
Never really thought about that tune, but most of the time if I’m playing backup I’ll roll thru the chords.

Hey Jim. I know it is different for every person. But for you, how long did it take for you to get to the level of skill you are at now? Like from beginner to intermediate to professional? How about other banjo players? I am on lesson 10 in the beginning banjo lessons. So just started working on the 3rd song, boiling cabbage down. I am not looking to be professional. I would like to be able to play faster and more accurately. Just where I could play most songs at a decent tempo and accuracy.

What is the grayish black scrapes on the head of the banjo? Is that from the picks hitting the drum?

Mostly just debris that comes off the picks as I play. It's not from hitting the head. However, there is wear where I touch with my anchor finger...
