Wait, so are you picking your finger up while still touching the string or are you just holding down as hard as you can while sliding?

Between your teaching me online and listening to it on repeat back and forth to work, the pieces came together for me fairly quickly. I’m 50, back in school, and working 14-16 hours a day and a half hour here or there practicing what you’ve taught me is my musical therapy. I bought a tshirt because I’m a proud Pankey SOB! Thanks again for your videos!

I began playing the banjo at the age of 11. Thirteen years have since passed, and I still deem this instrument the best thing in the world. My love for it surpasses all else. Thank you for all your wonderful videos! Greetings from France, where the banjo is a rare thing.

That’s definitely a awesome banjo… I don’t live far from Chattanooga in fact I work in Chattanooga… but yeah I know Blaylocks I remember going in there before he passed away.. he was in a wheelchair his last few years he had his legs amputated from diabetes… I was in there one day I was going to buy a stelling Redfox and he said just take it with you and come pay every week or month it’s up to you… his son Bryan could play almost any instrument … cool story… thanks buddy…

Spikes? that looks like a nail head. How do you get them installed on your banjo? With a hammer?
@@JimPankey thanks- I guess that i'll have to get some banjo spikes and give that a try. Just goes to show that you can learn new things no matter how old you are!

But how do I get my thumb to reliably drop to that pesky B string? Well, at least reliably... happy to have found your vids, I've finally learned Spotted Pony, then made it my own thanks to you. I'll be digging through the back catalog of lessons for sure.
@JimPankey6 күн бұрын
I think you know the answer to that drop thumb... practice.
After a longer break, the last days, i played every day.. just do it, how you say it. Then you can do it. Sometimes its better to repeat just a few notes, with the goal to pick it clean. That works to me. Thank you Jim

The best advice I got as a left handed want to be guitar player was to learn right handed. You can borrow any guitar and play and all guitars are avaliable in right handed models

Love this and thank you. Is the slide on "goin' up to cripple creek" a full step or half step on 3 starting at 2nd fret? I've seen so many videos and they all sound good but when they do the half step it seems like the slight pluck on the open 2 is what they do to get the pitch of the note as its done in the song. I struggle with it and cant help but wonder if sliding from 2nd fret to 4th on 3 would give the same effect and be way easier. Hope that makes sense. I'm just learning over here!
@JimPankey6 күн бұрын
I teach it sliding from 2-4, but do whatever you want.
