Skateboarding is a great way to burn calories. I started when I was 8, I stopped when I got ill at 28, recovered, then skated consistently until I was 46. Stopped for a year and missed it too much so started again. I am now 52 and I'll quit when I can't physically do it anymore. Advice to older dudes starting out. Definitely wear pads! Your body will thank you. Remember you're not 80 lbs anymore. Baby steps, don't be a hero, those days are past. And if you try to skate vert you won't be running out of anything like you can on a mini ramp. I can't stress the pads issue enough. Don't just wear them, actually practice bailing on purpose regularly. This sounds stupid, but it helps build your confidence. Finally welcome to the brotherhood! skating is the most frustrating and rewarding pastime you'll ever experience.
@ProdigalSuns4 жыл бұрын
Great comment, sounds like you have a good history in skateboarding. Ifully agree on the pads topic. I would be in bad shape without pads right now. Thanks for the comment 👍

It really burns calories? Heck, I guess anything you do to get out of the house and on your feet, would do that to some extent though. Like any sport, is it good for your mental health too?

I haven't skated since 2004 brother..i was never good but i enjoyed it.. right after joining the Marines i shipped off to iraq, after multiple injuries during my tour and 9 months of physical therapy , i had arthritic knee and lower back ,lost nerve on left leg and topped the scale at 309lbs. My 20s were nothing to be prideful about i gave up skateboarding, actually gave up on alot . Now i am 33yrs old , lost 160+pounds and ready to get back on the board..I have fear of getting hurt as i am unbalanced due to my injuries from war but i went fully loaded and bought knee pads , wrist and helmet. I also mentally prepared myself to just skate with no tricks for a year. I started by buying a razor scooter this past month and after your videos i just saw , i bought my skateboard. Keep grinding brother , excited to show my son its never to late. Excited to also give me some joyness in my life. I currently work at a job where i wake up every morning and emotionally and mentally commit suicide . Riding my bike and scooter to work has helped .i cant wait to see what the board hold for me .stay blessed and thank you for this video. Bought a 9x 33inch board / 60mm wheels.

We are in Tampa house hunting, getting ready to move back from Germany. Our kids ride scooters and I ride my Evolve electric skateboard. We found a great skatepark where everyone is super nice! I'm going to also skateboard (no electric power) with the boys, I'm 62, starting from almost ground level. Looking forward to starting. Getting my new board today. Great video! Older guy at the shop told me the same things, good minds think alike! Thanks again.

Thank you! I am 47 and I just got myself a new board after a little break of 30 years. It feels awesome and I hope my kids will keep being motivated to go skating with daddy.

Woah, glad you made it back after all that. Have you been skating your whole life. Or were these just random injuries?
@alexvan13464 жыл бұрын
Prodigal Suns I skateboarded as a teenager and some in my twenties, but there were basically no skateparks around where I lived. Recent injuries mostly from motorcycle accident. I’ve been on a longboard skateboard just carving around and some surfing last few years. Now riding a 8.25 board (180 lbs), I can barely ollie anymore, but really progressing on mini ramps and mini bowls around where I live now. It’s also a great workout!

I'm 25 and watched this to remind myself to keep learning. I stopped skatinf after tearing my ankle tendon at 13 years old. Missed it so much, got a longboard, now have a skateboard and I've been learning at a steady pace and couldn't be happier. Much love, I hope you and your son share many happy moments together 🛹🙏

my ankles aren't the best either from times I've twisted them and I'm only a couple years older than you. I tried riding again just two days ago and hopefully I'll get to tricks but don't have much free time to practice

Exact video I needed to see as mid 30s! 12 year old has expressed interest in boarding, figured I messed around as a kid, but nows a perfect time to learn and skate with him.

I'm 39 picked up a board because my 11 year old daughter wanted to learn to skate so thought I better do a bit so I can teach her, glad I did, nailed an ollie within the first 2 days and done a few laps of our block with her, now onto the shuvits and frontside 180 🤣 wish me luck

Thanks for the video, I'm 56 and I bought a skateboard from a real skateboard store, not from Big5 or Wallmart, I was planning on buying my first skateboard at Big5 and I asked a employee that worked at the store for advice on buying a skateboard, and this young employee that looked liked a 19 years old kid told me if I was serious in learning to skateboard, to buy one from a real skateboard shop, like at Zumiez but not from Big5 or Walmart because there not real skateboards, I'm gland I took this young kid advise in buying a real skateboard. I have a ATM Click skateboard and I really want to learn how to skateboard, I fell once on my back side shoulder and it really hurt and got a nasty bruise on my shoulder, and now I'm scared to get back on it, so I bought some protective padding for my knees, elbows, wrist guard and even a helmet, but I'm taking it really easy this time and taking it slow, like they say, you have to crawl before you walk and run.

Not only is your video really inspiring but the comments are absolutely amazing! Respect to all of you and anyone my generation doing it. I'm 51 and got my first board 10 days ago. I'm loving it! Btw I went to the local indoor skatepark today...rode down a steep roll in, went over the little box, rode up the other side then...fuck!!! I'm coming down fakie, never rode fakie went tits up over the littlebox and landed on my side, banging my hip and forearm quite badly. I had full pads on and a helmet on so it could have been a lot worse! After a lil break I got back into it and after a few trys I rolled in on a bigger ramp, went up the other side, came down fakie then pulled off a revert to cruise to glory!! Hahahah I am still buzzing
