In today’s episode of Learn to Sew with Minerva, we’re looking at a special hem finishing technique using ribbon. This couture practice will give your makes a flash of elegance, you can either co-ordinate for a subtle effect or go decorative with a contrast ribbon for fun! It’s ideal for skirts or dresses which have very little fabric left to hem, and for curved hems. This can also weight the garment to stop the hem from turning or create an invisible finish with organza ribbon for mesh or tulle fabrics. I didn't know this was an actual technique 😮 A while ago I got this amazing jacquard fabric remnant in Paris and made an unlined jacket out of it. I didn't have anything left so I used ribbon to hem it and even the sleeves 😅

I was wondering about how the elastic band with the pretty ribbon edging would be sewn on, my mom is a very skilled sewer but, unfortunately, have never seen this specific thing be done, plus, it was very hard to see the thread where you had sewn the green ribbon on after you had completed the final piece, the glare from the shine of the ribbon blocked it from being visible. I’m certain you didn’t go down the middle of the ribbon, did you? I didn’t see any other comment mention anything about this.
