This is only for recreational purposes! I don’t recommend doing this for any kind of self-defense situation, but throwing knives in a Safeway is super super super fun. Do you have any questions? Leave them in the comments below! Also, here is a link to the kids book that I mentioned in the video.
www.amazon.com...
Many movies throw knives, and the techniques are extraordinarily varying. If you see certain people throwing them by the blades, that is a technique that is used for a different style of throwing, or if the target is an odd number of steps away, if you are using my current technique. Feel free to follow and comments, do all that stuff. #howto #survival #nature #comedy #bushcraft #outdoors #animals #archery #knifethrowing #knife #mythbuster

I’ve never in any type of combat situation at home or abroad thought that throwing a knife was good for anything except a distraction but it’s fun to play with.
@TheShurikenZone
@TheShurikenZone Күн бұрын
Distraction is a pretty powerful thing in a combative situation, certainly. Before knife throwing becomes combatively viable, a person has to develop a fairly high level of skill, and even then, the circumstances under which it would be advisable would be pretty specific. In the modern world, that is. Before firearms were common, or even when they were single sh0t, blade throwing had a lot more viability. But still, in the modern world, there are situations when it could come in handy, especially if you have enough skill to effectively throw everyday objects. Just a little food for thought.

@ Because I work 12 hours a day 6 days a week on our ranch. My day off is hunting or fishing. Does that answer your question? Just like the op said, people think you will not throw knives in a combat situation, well I do and I never carry only one. Thankfully avoiding situations where defense in needed makes throwing knives very fun as a hobby as well.

@@TheShurikenZone agreed. I’d do it if I needed to buy myself a fraction of a second if I thought it would help. Otherwise I’d use it hand to hand.

I got so discouraged with trying to get good at rotational knife throwing that I gave up and started learning no-spin throwing. For me, I've had WAY BETTER success throwing with no-spin. It's a totally different technique but distance from target has a lot less to do with your throw. You'll still get some rotation, especially with large distances but overall it's a lot easier IMO.

Thanks for the tip. That sword looks pretty decent. When you threw the sword, I thought about that scene in the "Robin hood, prince of thieves movie from back in the 90s when the Morgan freeman character threw his scimitar at the witch and it stuck in her like the sword stuck in the tree but because she was a soft target, it wiggled upon impact. Crazy scene. 👍

The whole idea of using a thrown knife for combat is because in movies, people instantly die when a knife hits them. In real life, you often don't KNOW you've been stabbed. There have even been guys in war who didn't know that rifle bullets had hit them.

The fantasy in films came from a documented case recorded by an Army officer claiming that he witnessed a knife duel between the treachurous Army scout Kit Karson and a Ute warrior in which Karson supposedly threw his heavy bowie knife through the sternum of his opponent resulting in a quick death. Having retold that tale it's been confirmed that the Army officers told numerous fabrications about events during the Indan Wars for freedom against the U.S. federal troops. Just as we've learned of more recent fabrications told by military as damage control when operations went bad due to cowardice or some other shameful actions. Operation Redwing being only one example.

The mathematical approach makes so much more sense to me. I always felt too random. How does it come the sword has a longer rotation way? Is it weight, balance or length?

I only throw no spin and I can sink the blade deeper this way. I also have no need for measurements of distance and it is affective in self defense. Spin is for fun/show.

Japanese Shurikenjutsu uses no-spin method and the weapon was used by samurai bushi to distract and injure the opposition before drawing one's katana. It wasn't a man stopper weapon but bought the bushi time and space to deploy a sword. The real samurai bushi shuriken used are about 5" long, weighted, like a large steel nail.

You misspoke when you said that for each step you take, the blade will rotate 1/2 a turn - a 180° turn. Then you demonstrated this by turning the blade 1/4, or 90° turn. And then you "proved" it by taking 4 steps (4×90=360) for one full rotation of the blade. Otherwise, good video.
