Question: in the exercise, when my friends ask me, "are you ready for the exam?" "the exam" isn't in the accusative case. why is that? i have always seen "exam" in the accusative case before because it was always specific. isn't it specific in this case? i would think that since everyone knows which exam it is, it would make it very specific.

If the object is a direct object right before the verb then we use an accusative suffix. For ex: I passed the exam. Sınavı geçtim. Also, there is "için" after "sınav" which again doesn't let us use the accusative suffix.

Thanks for the lesson. Teacher, what is your advice when it comes to getting used to natural sounding sentence order? I'm finding that with Turkish there is no set order other than the verb being at the end / or there are special exceptions and this can be confusing, as this is hard to learn when it isn't always consistent and I don't want my sentences to sound unnatural. For example, I put Ben istanbula yakinda tasiniyorum because I though location came after Subject if there is no time indicated. This is just one example.

The general word order is as: "Subject - Time - Location - Object - Verb" Actually, there is time in your example sentence which is "yakında = soon"). So that sentence should be as: Ben yakında İstanbul'a taşınıyorum.

Hi! I am a bit confused in cases like: Öğrenciler öğretmene "Evet, biz bütün hafta sonu ders çalıştık" diye cevap verdi. Whay is not VERDILER at the end since there are students in plural? I have also noticed this same thing in text at the end like: Arkadaşlarım bana" Sınav için hazır mısın?diye sordu (LAR????) there are more than one friend asking me if I am ready for the exam. Thank you for the explanation.

Merhaba. For the pronoun "onlar" the suffix " ler/lar" is optional. You can say it or you can just omit it. They went to school = Onlar okula gitti / Onlar okula gittiler. Both sentences are correct.
