@@finnoXkhmer I’ve actually been thinking of learning these languages since there’s many who speak those languages and can’t communicate in English where I live (I can imagine it can be very tough going into a new country without knowing the language or people. It’s always nice seeing the smile of one’s face when they learn I speak Spanish (my native language). I tried doing many at once but that didn’t work out jaja. But after I’m done with learning Portuguese, I’ll be learning many other languages because if I want to be an interpreter, I feel like I have to be fluent in at least 3 languages.

Russian is comparable to ancient Greek and Latin. Pushkin's poetry is comparable to the epics of Homer and Virgil. You learn Russian for the literature! And don't forget Gogol who was Ukrainian and who wrote in Ukrainian and Russian!
@ennnafnlaus29042 жыл бұрын
@@tomgrier9542 That's not accurate. Pushkin's Russian, which went on to influence much of the Russian nation (in no large part due to the newly widespread existence of the printing press), wasn't ancient at all, and it wasn't even his native language; up until age 10 he spoke mostly French. He learned the Russian dialect of a beloved nanny, though it became influenced by his French. Since Pushkin became such a popular Russian author, his dialect helped become the "standard". But this "standard"is only two centuries old. Many people wrongly believe that before Pushkin people spoke mainly Old Church Slavonic, and after Pushkin, Russian. But there was not one single standard Russian dialect before Pushkin (many different dialects / languages, increasingly different from each other the further apart you got), and *none* of them were Old Church Slavonic. Old Church Slavonic was a sort of "Slavic Religious Interlingua", the language of religious scholars to communicate with each other (in the way that Latin was in the west and Quranic Arabic in the Middle East / North Africa); it's actually closest to Old Bulgarian, and seems to have propagated northward from there. On the subject of Pushkin, it's also worth mentioning that he was an unapologetic imperialist, and as a consequence, is deeply popular with modern Russian imperialists. Ex. "Submit, Cherkes! Both West and East, May soon share your fate, When the time comes, you'll say arrogantly: Yes, I'm a slave but a slave of the Tsar of the World!"" He saw the Russian empire as the greatest thing the world had ever created and proudly cheered on its expansionism subduing any nation that resisted. By contrast, the *Ukrainian* poet Shevchenko was harshly critical of (and sarcastically parodied) Pushkin's imperialist apologism.

The alphabet is different and the sounds are stranger than Spanish sounds were for me, but somehow this just makes a lot of sense, and I understand it.

But the problem is stress. In Polish, it's very easy. In Ukrainian, it's random. So for example vodA in nominative singular, vOdy in nominative plural. There are even harder words, where the stress changes the whole meaning. Do you think pronouncing сь, ть, дь, ць, зь, рь is easy?

I believe that the 5th phrase(Welcome!) was the one that greeted the Russian forces, when the brave Ukrainians gave them a warm welcome!

This is gonna be a nice challenge for me! And I believe a necessary study for many Americans if we are gonna build a relationship with Ukraine and help to rebuild the country so that we can at least recoup the value of our benevolence by leaving a beautifully rebuilt democratic NATO nation that has the unfortunate geography that serves as the ultimate buffer between the East to the West.

Well, as a ukrainian I'll recomend to you to use a couple of different voices for each word. Because this "Привіт" - "Hi" heared a bit cutted, prononcieted to quickly. And it's working with each language, better to use a few versions 😉
