I have just started learning frontend a couple of months ago and I believe it's a long run. I believe that the demand will always be there cuz there's lots of legacy code that needs to be supported and maintained all around the world and the industry will change and shift in a way but still be around. I would say never stop learning but with this recession and it's not looking to be short, have a back up plan. I did nucamp boot camp and I'm a contractor at Google but even with a network it is hard. I ended up going for my other passion and got hired at Ford as a technician and they are training me to be a diesel mechanic.

I like the fact that you do keep it honest and say you don't know how it will play out. Ultimately no one knows how long this recession will last and how long will it take to recover the developer market. Keep in mind learning web dev takes a lot of time and effort. I took 2 months of work to spend 8 hours a day to code (after going part time the previous 3 months to spend at least 20 hours a week coding). I have been learning code for 2 years. Now that I'm applying, many companies are telling me they are laying people off. People need to understand that this is a brutally tough industry to get in. There is no guarantee it will be as robust in the future as it has been in the past. Give it your all but that doesn't mean it is enough.

I would look for ways to start contributing to stuff at your company. Find a project that is open to you dipping your toes and carve out a career change. Leverage that advantage if you can.

Just my luck.. Spent 3- 1/2 years in a college program.. And been doing tons of front and backend classes / Bootcamp... I will be job ready by 02/2023... Now I got to deal with this... I'm getting too old for this... I'm pushing 40 (this week) and I spent 14 years unemployed, as a disabled Veteran who had to spend all that time just trying to get better (medical discharge)... My life reads like the most depressing story of all time, and I keept working my hardest for years, just to have a recession smack me in my face... I doubt I'll find any company that will hire me by the end of my classes now.. I've even run the numbers.. Due to margin calls in the markets, the housing market going down and CPI through the roof... It's not go get any better... We will hit a new type of low in our markets and this one is going to be 10x worse than the one I experience back in the day... Good luck everyone... We going to need it.

Take it with a grain of salt. There are always yearly layoffs and pauses. Take this article mentioning Amazon and Facebook slowing down. I am getting more calls from Amazon and Facebook recruiters from ever before. Doesn't seem like a slow down to me. I feel there is some changes happening, small startups not making it but for the most part, it is not as bad as the news makes it to be, more fear mongering, keep studying, bide your time. People who don't give up and steadily learn can make it still.

@@TwitchRadio Remember that there a a LOT more companies other than Amazon and Google. I wouldn't even be thinking of them starting out. You will find somewhere to get your start. I was looking at remote dev jobs and there are *plenty* of smaller companies hiring. Stay positive and good luck!

I went to a coding bootcamp years ago. The material was great the "Career Services" was veeeeery lackluster. I had a lot of fun and really enjoyed it but decided to focus on my job as a mechanic. While i love my job it's tearing up my body and with the push towards electric vehicles i think its time to start looking back into coding. I havent really touched a line of code in about 2 years. One thing i do remember is even in the bootcamp it felt like "new" things were coming out every other week, so I am sure i will be lost when i jump back in. My question is probably one you get all the time but where should i start? I dont feel as if another bootcamp is necessary, as they have quadrupled in price and i didnt feel i got my moneys worth back then.

Thanks for the information on FreeCodeCamp and Odin Project. I'm currently going through the FreeCodeCamp challenges. This is a lot tougher than I thought before I started. There are a ton of things you have to know and I can't remember them. It will take months and years.

What's your work/life balance like as a front end web developer? Is it like a 40 hour a week job?

family life is important to me so i typically work 40 per week but there are times where I get super focused on what I am doing that I might run over or occasionally there is an urgent need to get something out. These are not super common. There are companies with a long hours work culture and when interviewing, I try to find out of that is the case and will skip it if they don't have good work life balance.

I wouldn't worry about it. Try to be a software engineer first with flexibility to work across platforms and systems. Start looking for opportunities get more experience with front-end and then I would probably focus on full stack since you have experience. It might be challenging to move straight to a 100% frontend web development role right away, but I'm sure once you start doing it, it won't take long to get good at it. Don't discount your current experience. You're a senior engineer looking to expand your skillset into new areas.

the one that will solve the current problem you are working on. think about how you can make it more efficient while still being understandable for someone else who encounters it in your code down the road. probably not the answer you wanted, but it's totally situational and depends on the types of project you work on.

@@jamescross For me, its a way of life. For whatever reason, I'm not built to have bosses. A little over a year ago, I left my position where I had been for 6-7 years because I accepted the fact that office/corporate life was killing my soul. My wife and two young children gave me their blessing and I quit. It was a grind at first, but now Im back at what I was making at my last job. One of my clients IS my last job and theyre paying me 3x what they were paying me before. I know your channel is geared towards getting jobs AT places, but wanted to give lip service to those the that have an inclination to start their own thing. I found Im the type of person that thrives on making my own way, so it worked out. I will say that a lot of my success freelancing, is because Im a talker and have well-developed communication skills and have no issue saying no to people/standing up for myself. My two cents!

I feel like your "Surprised Face" thumbnails make you look like one of those crypto scammers who put their surprised faces with "URGENT!!!🛑❌💲" titles. I believe most of the people including me generally tend to ignore such kinds of thumbnails as they give scam vibes. So, in my opinion, it will be good for growth of your channel if your thumbnails include pictures of web dev stacks or some latest JS frameworks or anything tech related rather than unnatural surprised faces.
