It’s just amazing to me, that so many people I know,, do not want change!!! Even when the present situation is harming them!!!! I was there!! But those relationships chip away at the years!! And years, are passing fast, and finally to say ENOUGH!!!! My tiny circle of relationships keeps getting smaller. But I keep being happier,,, I’m Lonely, yes,,, and have so much to give. But now refuse to give my energies and and trust to just anyone. People have drained me all of my working years,,, because? I DID NOT KNOW HOW TO SET A SINGLE BOUNDARY.

Self knowledge and application is so basic, but not so obvious. In light of how the Bible sees things, your explanation is so good! Thank you for a simple powerful answer.

This is interesting because I have a passion for "Weird Fiction." Writers like HP Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard, Guy De Maupassant, etc. All these writers had overbearing mothers and/or distant fathers. The "Other" is always dangerous, indifferent, alien, strange, and will either kill you, drive you mad, or not care about you at all. I had a similar upbringing, and your book "We Are Our Mothers" with the accuracy of your description of men with phantom mothers hit me spot on. I wonder if, in their stories and mine by extension, because I want to write like them, the "Other" is their mother who never loved them, hence their self-image and worldview of being abandoned in a hostile world filled with unloving, creatures. All the writers I mentioned were also suicidal, depressed, and died young. Howard by suicide, Lovecraft with cancer at 41, and Guy by attempted suicide and madness. Makes me very sad, but shows the power of a mother's love to direct their child's heart to hell or heaven.

(my question is hard to formulate since I'm french speaking) Is it possible that a baby feels rejected by his father through the emotions of her mother holding her. I mean, recently I had a « vision » like a remembrance (it would be a spiritual remembrance or kind of a revelation of what really happened), when I was a baby, my mom was holding me tenderly in a rocking chair and my father, coming back from work, just passed through the kitchen without looking at us. My mother had tears rolling down her cheeks as my father ignored us. In that vision, as I saw my mother's emotions I knew I experienced rejection. Important information : it took 2 weeks after I was born, before my father look at me. So that's why I'm asking if a baby can experience rejection through the empathy of her mother for her, if I can say it that way

I am so sorry this was how your father regarded you. This question is so very insightful, and exactly how I felt when my kids were babies and toddlers. He wasn't interested because "they can't DO anything" -- yes, that's what he said often 😞😓😭😱🤯

@@annak29 Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. That's why I think a baby can feel the same emotions that her mother experiences.
