Brillliant! Ya had me at "playing over and over from the beginning" - guilty as charged. These tips are so helpful and I will give them a try. You are so correct - using "my method" is NOT secure and one interruption can derail a whole piece. I love the way you broke down "looking for the harmony"...so right musically! Thank you! Thank you! I've been memorizing pieces (mostly because the music is in storage right now), but most of the pieces I play I already learned so I managed to remember. (I had to set it aside for a while not out of choice). I think I learn through remembering how it sounds - and a little muscle memory. I can remember the pieces and I will pick a couple of days where I will just review them to remember how they go. Some are songs I made up or transcribed from hearing a favorite song or even one I find interesting. I can kind of figure out the fingerings, but I need to work on it more. (Not surprisingly, the pieces I learned from actual sheet music come much easier!) They're relatively simple pieces, but sometimes when I play them, I'll make the dumbest mistake in a part I know. I just wonder if other people have that happen. I do try to focus on the piece I'm learning to get the fingering down. I probably am too eager to learn all sorts of pieces, but I do try to keep track of what I know. Your advice to learn a couple of lines each day then add on till it's locked in is especially good, as was all of it. I will use that!

Yes, I repeat small sections to memorise a piece but am slow to read sheet music, especially the bass clef. I enjoy your videos.

Really interesting and helpful. I don’t know how to analyze the harmonic structure though- If you were ever, say, stuck for ideas on content, could you do a video (or 3) on tips 4-6? I personally would love to learn how to better understand music, focused specifically at the harp. I have watched some videos focused on piano, but I have this feeling that certain structures are sometimes put into harp music specifically to make use of the unique aspects of a harp. Admittedly, I could be wrong…

Harmonic analysis is the same for every instrument/musicians. There are however some tricks or situations which applied to determined instrument. I'll write it on my list of contents!

Wonderful tips as always on memorizing! ❤ I start from the end of the piece also when memorizing. Love the idea of repeating only two lines until you have it correct. I recently had a song that I would always buzz at a certain part. I repeated that part over and over again until I was able to play without the buzz. Of course I want to hear any tips you have!! Please do a video on music reading tips! THANK YOU!!

Anche io uso gli stessi passaggi per memorizzare, analisi della forma e armonia aiutano a costruire una mappa mentale del brano. Una cosa forse strana: per circa 30 anni ho suonato il flauto traverso e il piano, posso leggere molto bene a prima vista, quasi a livello definitivo, però non ho mai memorizzato praticamente nessun pezzo. Poi a 40 anni ho iniziato a suonare l’arpa e magicamente il mio approccio si è invertito, ora per suonare decentemente un brano devo saperlo a memoria. E li imparo abbastanza velocemente. Unico problema è farli rimanere in memoria senza suonarli tutti i giorni, dopo un po’ di tempo li dimentico, anche se con una piccola rinfrescata tornano velocemente in mente. Unica eccezione è La Gimblette. Questo pezzo mi rimane scolpito, forse perché la struttura è veramente molto semplice. Un saluto

Ottimo, hai proprio trovato il tuo sistema che funziona! Io i brani me li ricordo anche dopo anni perché ho una buona memoria fotografica. Vedo la tonalità e i primi accordi, poi ricostruisco "a orecchio". Ovviamente non sono freschi e perfetti, ma ho sempre gli inizi.
