This is an unreasonably competent demonstration and you convey a solid "you're in safe hands" vibe for a program that otherwise looks very daunting to jump into. I've never used zbrush and I'm probably not your target audience but I'd be interested to see how an experienced user sifts through these innumerable features in pursuit of a modeling goal.

CraigNull Thank you! I want to spread the knowledge of 3D and help other artists use these tools to express their artistic talent. Starting out was very tough for me, so I aim to guide people through some of the difficult steps/hurdles. I’ll be posting more beginner videos and some sculpting tutorials as well. :) 👍

@willw46613 жыл бұрын
Hi Gatz 3D! I have a couple questions: in your line of work do you use Zbrush on your desktop PC or on a tablet? It's clear you're using a desktop PC in this video, but i'm just curious how it's typically used in the industry. Also- so I'm currently in the engineering/architecture industry working primarily with ACAD and Inventor which is how I've learned to do 3d modeling. However I have a BFA and am considering transitioning into 3D art using tools like Zbrush. What advice would you give someone like me about how to transition into this type of work? I'm currently not located in a town with a school that's listed on Pixelogic's "schools" page...
@Gatz3D3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Great questions. For Zbrush I have been using a PC (laptop currently), but it works on some tablets, like the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 and up. If you want to do anything cpu intensive a tablet may struggle to keep up beyond a certain point. But using a tablet on the go for smaller work/practice is totally viable. As far as learning 3D Art goes, if you are more inclined toward using Autocad or similar programs, do what you’re comfortable with to create the work you want. There are plenty of successful artists out there that do the initial sketch/layout using Autocad and switch to Maya/Blender later to do their textures and rendering. Are you interested in learning sculpting? Or are you more curious about what Zbrush has to offer that other programs don’t? :)

Can you import images into Zbrush to sculpt on?
@Gatz3D2 жыл бұрын
Heck yes you can. One way is to go to the Texture menu up top, go to import, select your image. Then go back to the texture menu and select the thumbnail of the image you just imported, and below that to the right is a button that says “Add to Spotlight”. Click that and you get a wheel menu and your image appears on screen. Use the wheel menu to move/scale/rotate your image into place. Press Z to toggle the wheel menu on/off, or press Shift+Z to toggle the spotlight on/off altogether. If you want to sculpt while using the spotlight you need to go to the Brush menu, go down to Samples, and turn Spotlight Projection off first. 👍 The second way to import images on all sides of your object is: Go to the Draw menu. Below the camera settings are the mini menus for Snap, Front-Back, Up-down, & Left-Right. Click where it says “Snapshot to grid” and it will allow you to start importing images. Click any of the options (Front-Back, Up-down, & Left-Right) to open that menu, and click Map 1. When the texture menu opens, select Import at the bottom left and choose any image. Adjust the scale of the image in the menu below Map 1. To turn an image off simply click Map 1 and select “Texture Off” at the top left. Hope this helps :)

How do you delete an entire object?
@Gatz3D3 жыл бұрын
Zbrush sees individual mesh objects as Subtools. If you click on the Tool menu, then click Subtool, you can select a Subtool from the list and scroll down in the subtool menu to find buttons for duplicate or delete. If you have many subtools, a quick way to switch from one subtool to another is by holding Alt and left clicking on the desired subtool in your viewport. Deleting is permanent and can’t be undone with ctrl+z, so be sure you want that object gone for good. Hope this helps!

For some reason I cannot click on Edit. =(
@Gatz3D3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes Zbrush does this crazy thing before you turn on Edit mode. If you took the Simple brush and drew more than 1 primitive (sphere, cube, etc), try hitting Ctrl+N to clear your canvas, and then draw a new sphere. If you draw more than 1, Zbrush doesn’t let you turn on Edit mode. Hope this helps!!
