Ssl channel comp (Slate FG-401) Is my desert island compressor. Works on drums, vocals, bass and even busses. With a fast enough attack to treat peaks and transients and slow enough to focus on troughs.

I've heard great things about the slate plugins, but I haven't explored past trigger 2. Thanks for the suggestion!

LA2A has too slow of release to be useable at heavy amounts. Plus the lack of control makes it quite a one-trick pony. 1176 are much more versatile.

1176 appreciation coming soon!

It does have a slow release, but it does make it fun to use at heavy amounts as it saturates if you push it. Try it on drums, it’s usually the last compressor people use on drums but it sounds class

Great explanation! To my ears it sounded like the vocal dynamics were being squashed.

Yer you get the vst format in the UA Volt 176 audio interface as well as other UA plugins.. I really like that compressor.. its not just about the boost but setting the boost to the filters working those knobs can add a lot of goodness to sound, and not just vocals. You forgot the HF knob though.. that also adds good texture control.

YES, I saw the HF knob on other UAD models while researching this video but my version did not have it :/ Thanks for mentioning it, I'll keep it in mind for next time :D Thank you for commenting! #voltgang
