Play AC, draw trumps, eliminate hearts, discarding a club. Exit with the club and claim as the defence must either break the diamonds or give you a ruff and discard (discarding a diamond from hand).

In my experience of playing on Funbridge, an opening lead finesse in a trump contract ALWAYS fails. They never, ever lead away from a king - no idea if this is done in real life though.

The robots are for sure very reluctant to lead away from a king, especially in suit contracts. But so am I. It's often a terrible lead, almost as bad as leading from an ace. Looking at simulations, for instance the book "Winning Suit Contract Leads" by David Bird & Taf Anthias shows this clearly. Leading from K-J or K-10 is especially bad.

Curt, if you had tried the CQ finesse, could you not have still made the contract? E wins the CK, returns a D, W takes his DA and returns it to E's DK. Then your diamonds are set up. You get 5 spades, 3 hearts, a club and 2 diamonds? Doesn't' that work? (If they don't play back diamonds at trick 2, you win the trick and then implement your maneuver exiting with the C3 forcing a D lead or a ruff/sluff.) Regardless, thanks for an interesting hand.

The Idea is that before stripping the other suits the defense can safely return a heart and force you to open up diamonds - if they play diamonds anyway, that’s your good fortune but this line forces them to do that - hope that helps

@@briancraig3799look out for a suit that you would prefer it if the defense would play first then look to see if it’s possible to eliminate the other suits then see if you have an appropriate exit card to throw them in - quite often the exit card is in the same suit they led initially

What if they do not switch to the diamond. The when you cash all your tricks and you are on lead and have to lead the diamond yourself. Only way to make is to force opps to lead the diamond or give ruff and sluff
