What an interesting hand! All in the end play and I would have won with the King of clubs! Panic mode cos of the slam!

Wouldn't it have been easier to finesse once you realized that West was out of diamonds?

Finessing in Diamonds on the first or second trick is playing a pure guess. From the auction you know West has more Clubs than East, and therefore you can play for East to have longer Diamonds and therefore a better chance of holding 3, 4, or even all 5 of the missing Diamonds. But after taking the first two Diamond tricks and discovering the bad 4-1 split, there is no finesse. East holds J8, South holds K7. If the D9 is lead from Dummy, East covers with the J, forcing the DK from South leaving the D8 high. If Dummy keads low, East plays the 8, again forcing the DK from South, leaving East with the winning DJ.

It does seem that the tricks appear out of thin air! I wish I could summon the tricks at will like Jack does.

I suppose we could rename this one the unnecessary double squeeze
