@@myfaves2974 Yeah. When it come to Zhao Yun... At first glance, His little to almost none existed flaws made him seem like some kind of Mary Sue character that was biasedly written to be perfect. But when all the records whether the historical records from both Shu and Wei, the collections of oral stories from common folks, or the later written stories from various authors of both the north and the south... All painted pretty much similar picture when it come him. That's a pretty good indicator that he really is that good of a man.

Guan Yu might have a hereditary disease called Hemochromatosis. The body stores excessive amounts of iron which might have given him the red face. The extra iron also gives him the ability to store more oxygen thus his strength. This is only my conjecture.

If it is hemochromatosis he shouldn't be able to fight optimally. High iron doesn't store oxgen if anything it's the opposite. The desease will over saturate the blood with iron, leaving little room for oxygen.

or get this, the land known today as china was actually vastly diverse region with many ethnic groups, some even nomadic. Take a picture and turn it upside down... wouldn't it be possible if Guan Yu might not be Han (the ethnicity most westerners associate with the term Chinese today) ? He initially served Cao Cao from the north, so he might be a mix of caucasian blood thats khazak, russian, hence his face gets more red when agitated compared to what han people are used to. Fun fact: Ma Chao pretty much allowed his clan's execution. At that point, his father had offered himself and members of his clan to stay in the capital of Xuchang as political insurance for their hometown of the Liang province. Ma Chao planned to take independence of his region, and he collaborated with his father's old bandit buddy Han Sui to do so. At this point, the lives of the hostages were forfeit.

In the fiction he was tricked which lead to the loss of his family. His victories in direct combat lead to the north and qiang tribes avoiding him guarding the north of Shu.

i watched a historian 易中天 says the term 5 Tiger Generals were named by later time, and Zhao Yun was undermined by Liu Bei despite he was already an acknowledged good fighter and even rescued his infant son behind enemy line.. So 易中天 argued it should have been called 4 Tiger Generals instead. Examples given were Zhao Yun was omitted from many battles, and other ancestral or political factors. Despite that, Zhao Yun faithfully served the kingdom till death by old age.

I think Guan Yu, Zhang Fei and Liú Bèi's brotherhood was also what caused their downfall too, because if I remember correctly Zhang Fei got back stab by his own people like LuBu, Guan Yu was insulted by the Wu, something to do with giving him a lower class bride and so he went on a rampage that the Wu plan as a ambush, which caused Liú Bèi' to seek revenge quickly when he should of not and should of listen to Zhuge Liang, and wait to take revenge, which caused his defeat. Zhao Yun I think was the last to stayed alive even after Liú Bèi' was gone and Shu was under Zhuge Liang's control.

Liu Bei rebel at the time, Zhuge Liang advice he took up Shu Han, the prince of Han to further his campaign and Wu, Sun Quan being petty took up a title because he didnt want to feel left out

Er... There's quite alot of mismatch and error you've mentioned and I also wanna add some things. Guan Yu - Guan Yu served Liu Bei all along but he did serve Cao Cao briefly but you skipped it all. Guan Yu had always served Liu Bei since the dawn of days during the Yellow Turban Rebellion and was also serving Liu Bei at Xuzhou. Cao Cao and Liu Bei started tussling over Xuzhou and during the time that Cao Cao went to confront Yuan Shao up north and after the mess that Lu Bu caused with his betrayal, Liu Bei attacked Cao Cao but got defeated and in fact lost all his lands in Xuzhou to Cao Cao and Guan Yu who was defending Xiapi. Cao Cao employed Guan Yu thus Guan Yu made a pledge to Cao Cao that he'll serve him till he finds his "brothers" (He, Zhang Fei and Liu Bei were basically sworn brothers). At the Battle of Boma, Yuan Shao sent his top general Yan Liang to be the vanguard. Guan Yu spotted him from afar, said nothing, grabbed his glaive and charged into the enemy lines and chopped Yan Liang's head off in one swoop like how he did it to Hua Xiong back during the days of Dong Zhuo's tyranny. He did it soo quickly that the Yuan forces were confused on what had happened and by the time they picked it back up, Guan Yu had already returned to Cao Cao's lines. Guan Yu would leave Cao Cao after learning that Liu Bei had went to join Yuan Shao after losing Xuzhou and thus went to find Liu Bei and went to serve him back till his own death in Jingzhou. Not only Liu Bei treats him like his own, Cao Cao also actually really revered him. Zhang Fei - Zhang Fei has always been treated more as a dimwit than anything due to his simplistic but rough nature where if things doesn't go his way, the only thing he thinks of is "brute strength solves everything" and his drunken stupour causes more issues than solving stuff but his prowess alone makes up for why he's one of the "Five Tiger Generals". His feat was indeed at Changban where his bellowing roar on the bridge froze thousands of Cao Cao's troops who dare not encroach any further and also making Cao Cao believe that beyond the bridge and deep into the cliffs, there's ambush (There actually was archers set by Zhuge Liang to fell down Cao Cao's forces if the Zhang Fei plan failed) beyond the cliffs and thus he retreated. That was one famous instances where he got his fame from besides drawing against the mightiest warrior of the Three Kingdoms period during a duel back when they were serving in the Coalition against Dong Zhuo, Lu Bu AND being one of the few that did duel Lu Bu and came out alive. Zhao Yun - Named "Zhao Zilong", he too made his name known at Changban. After hearing that Liu Bei's wife was accidentally left behind in a village during the hasty retreat with Liu Bei's son, A-dou, Zhao Yun charged back into the village and found the A-dou but being that he's only alone, Liu Bei's wife jumped into the well to drown herself and thus entrusting Zhao Yun to take care of A-dou and return him back to Liu Bei's side. However, one of Cao Cao's general, Xiahou En, blocked Zhao Yun's way and even brandished Cao Cao's entrusted "Blue Blade" sword at Zhao Yun by using the blade as a decree of the Prime Minister (Which Cao Cao was at this point) that he's there to bring down these pesky warlords and unify China. Zhao Yun didn't care and just straight up took his spear and stabbed the general to death and took the Blue Blade with him and A-dou whilst killing his way back to Liu Bei. Some estimate that whilst fleeing the village, he killed at least 200 soldiers alone and exaggerated amount goes up to thousands but regardless, he got back battered with multiple wounds but still didn't collapse and handed A-dou to his lord. Liu Bei got mad that his son had nearly killed one of his best generals and tossed him against a rock (which many said that's why A-dou grew up to pretty much be an idiot) citing: "I can have many wives and many kids later on but I cannot find any generals as loyal, courageous and brave as Zilong". Zhao Yun would later on serve the Shu court for decades, even leading troops into battle at the ripe old age of 75 which, at that time, was damn rare. Ma Chao - That is technically true but Ma Chao was fearful and how he got inducted into the "Five Tiger Generals" was of his relentless attitude and the way he led and rebuilding the Shu Cavalry which was the backbone of his own personal army, the Qiang tribesmen that he brought with him as he swore loyalty to Liu Bei and also what he did at the Battle of Tong Gate. Cao Cao lost one skirmish and was hastily retreating but Ma Chao was giving him no way to escape and relentlessly chasing Cao Cao's forces with the target to kill Cao Cao himself. To ditch Ma Chao, Cao Cao tossed every disguises he has but Ma Chao still broke thru the disguises and relentlessly pursuit Cao Cao. Even when Cao Cao left the main forces and hid in an unbeaten path, Ma Chao still caught up to him and nearly struck Cao Cao with a blow from his spear before he was intercepted by Xu Chu who then dueled with Ma Chao till there's a considerable gap for Cao Cao to escape then did Xu Chu retreat with his lord. Huang Zhong - Just as you said, Huang Zhong's known to be old when he was brought in to serve Liu Bei but as he's old, he's wise and strong, even stronger than most generals serving Liu Bei at that point of time. He's very well known to be an excellent archer, being able to hit the bullseye with a bow consistently over the distance of 100 paces. His battle at Mt. Dingjun was also legendary that he one-shotted Cao Cao's general, Xiahou Yuan and won the battle flawlessly.

@@petehoki2111 Might be fictional but it didn't matter as the lore of his existence and the bane of Cao Cao was born there plus he absolutely has to charge against Cao Cao's forces in Changban. Liu Bei at that point of time only had one son and that's A-dou. Even in ROTK, that's Shu's only hope if Liu Bei was to die thus Zhao Yun caught wind that Liu Bei's wives were still behind with A-dou so he definitely has to charge in to get the future heir of their empire. Then when he comes out, of course Cao Cao's men would prevent that so obviously, again, he has to kill his way out. Not only that, he cannot abandon A-dou can he so of course he has to strap A-dou to his chest or back and fight his way out.

Cao Cao armies stopped chasing them, and doing nothing to harm zhao yun convoy... all the drama at changban only happened in the novel.

the 5 furious were not really fictional. they were the popular traditional fighting moves and styles of very old Chinese martial arts. Jackie Chan knows these moves and they were presented by him in his very old movies, movies before most of us were born, in the 70s and 80s.

They were traditional fighting moves and styles invented by old masters. the only famous people who can do them today is Jackie Chan so far. He did a movie when he was in his 18s or 20s. At that time, he wasnt famous. His fighting technique was a little slow and childish. He showed it again in his 24s or 25s but in that movie, he was mainly focusing on his drunken moves rather than the furious fives technique. the Japanese made a Crab style but its not popular because its not really used for fighting. the style was mainly structured for the shoulder and forearm. Jet Li can do the furious five as well but he was mainly focusing on Tai Chi. in the movie Forbidden Kingdom, when Jet Li did the Mantis style, Jackie knows them and thus used the tiger style to counter the Mantis. in another movie with the ninja and Gordon Lui, the ninja used the crab style against Gordon Lui because he was using attacks to catch his arm and so the ninja used the crab to "muscle up" his arm and then Gordon couldnt catch him and then he used the Crane style from the furious five to stop the ninja's attack.

Could you at least teach the translators who scripted or English voice casts to at least speak the names of these generals properly. A video about the Dynasty Warrior game series of how the English mispronounce names of these generals and officials would be funny. Example. Cao Cao= Cow Cow! Guan Yu= Kwan U. Sun Quan= San Kwan, Zhuge Liang= zhugay lieng. Zhang Fei= Zheng Faei....It was hard to get use to as a Chinese ethnic when I first played those games, not quite understand what the heck they were calling and how funny it was of Cao Cao became Cow Cow.

The only i admired from those generals is zhao yun. . He never failed the task from his lord/strategist, never complain wheter he given a big or small role in the war, he is the youngest among those 4 yet he has the most wisdom. Guan Yu is overrated imo, zhang fei?? Brute strength wise okay, they're one of a kind. . But lately because of them and his older brother (later i will call them the 3 idiots) is the real reason why Shu never unite the china. Dont get me wrong, i was a Shu fan at the beginning, but later i thinking Shu is just another loser beside Wu

Kinda telling a novel story than a truly historical. 1. GuanYu. Is over exaggerated by the author. Although he is a formidable fighter, most of his heroic moments are exaggerated. He's kinda selfish and often conducts politics to gain power than in war. He can't win wars without a strategist with him. He loss more battles than winning. 2. Zhang Fei. Same, over exaggerated. Plus, he is the most engaged in politics to gain power. He beat up his own captains and soldiers but nothing will ever happen to him. No punishment whatsoever. In the end, killed by his own captains cause he over tortured them just for fun. 3. ZhaoYun. Although he is a good fighter and a decent general. But still over exaggerated. Story of him saving Liu Bei's baby by fighting thru an army camp without getting a single scratch. LMAO. All the soldiers are physically disabled? Plus, he's horse is still alive without a scratch. Where is the logic and common sense? 4. MaChao. He is basically a murderer and a robber. Plus, he is well known for he's traitorous behaviour in true history. He can't even put up fights against any decent generals from CaoCao camp, and then he died. So how is he a tiger? Only a character that is overly exaggerated by the author. Because the author considered himself Han. That's why he propaganda all the way against CaoCao camp who eventually conquered them all. 5. HuangZhong. Come on. He's a grandpa. Saying him still got the strength. 😂😂😂😂 Tell Arnold or Stalone to do it, they both also can't do it. The most exaggerated is Zhuge Liang. He's a fake and just a normal minister under Liu Bei. Because if he is so smart, why does he always lose war whenever SimaYi is around? Plus, why does Liu Bei hand over the military to another minister instead of Zhuge Liang if he is the most trusted and most brilliant strategist? The author just takes a nobody so that he can spin a nice story in the novel. 😂😂😂😂😂

Historian often exaggerate characters to boost morale to the common folk. Zhao Yun only has the Chang Ban feat, some history mentioned Cao Cao wanted him captured alive and warns his soldiers whoever kills Zhao Yun will be executed with their family. No surprise for Ma Chao, history mentioned he does get along with his dad Ma Teng. And everyone can be a general, as long as you hang out in the back line without getting caught. In every war, the generals is often at the back, they always take credit as if they single handedly win the battle.
