continue, but pls stop stereo-typing characters, like italian gianluca and chinese Xing.. You dont portray the dutch as weet-smoking, cheese-eating and wooden shoes wearing people! and hypotheekrente-aftrek does not exist anymore! not very up to date, Bart.
@LearndutchOrg
@LearndutchOrg 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your comment. First: 'hypotheekrenteaftrek' still exists. The debate about stereotypes is also one of the reasons I’m thinking about stopping with ‘Heb je zin?’. I’m used to living in a multicultural environment: Belgian family, I lived abroad in Russia and Spain, and I’ve always been within expat communities and groups of international students. Basically my entire life I’ve been fascinated about cultural differences… and using humor and stereotypes has always been a nice way to make connections and create a nice international atmosphere. But not everybody has the same humor and a joke might be different face-to-face, compared to a KZbin video. I agree that Gianluca is a stereotype (although it’s based on an existing person). Xing is just a random character and not in any way meant to relate to a stereotype about Chinese. In fact, I do try to mostly make fun about stereotypes about the Dutch: too direct, not spontaneous, stingy. My entire channel is full of videos about these stereotypes… but again: stereotypes don’t mean that this is the reality. I hope that this was clear, but if it’s not and if it’s offensive, then it’s indeed a reason to think about what to do with ‘Heb je zin?’… I simply can’t re-write the entire story. Your comment is appreciated. It’s different from the other comments but valuable to me.

This guy is basically complaining that characters with an Italian or Chinese name are being stereotyped. Absurd.
@hellenno1

@@LearndutchOrg by the way, I am a Chinese myself and I never take it as an insult that Xing is like this way. Some people are very narrow minded. That comes from a cultural difference I guess. A lot of Chinese have a sort of "collective" idea, in their mind one Chinese represents all Chinese. But Dutch people are more "individule". You are just yourself.

Hoi, Bart! I think you should continue making "Heb je zin" videos. I know you have concerns that they don't get as many views, but I wanted to reassure you that those of us who are actually self-studying to learn Dutch watch each of these episodes multiple times. As you mentioned, they have educational value, which is, unfortunately, not the #1 reason why most KZbin viewers watch KZbin videos. I find the HJZ videos far more valuable than the interview videos, which are entertaining but not as informative. Many of us are very committed to the HJZ storyline at this point as well, and would be sad to see it end. Keep up the great work! We love it!

I've been waiting so long to catch up with Xing, Marieke and the boys! Don't stop now, Bart; we all want to see how it all works out and how Gianlucca gets his comeuppance! On a more serious note, as a qualified & experienced language teacher I consider this combination of written and oral content, concentrating as it does on a specific Grammar point each lesson, to be an ideal way for a student to absorb the pronunciation, Grammar and nuances of idiom of a language. The fact that it is fun and does not give an overwhelming challenge to the student gives this series an edge over other "learn by reading"courses.

It also gives a lot of meaningful info about the Netherlands in a pleasant and captivating way. Everything in your lovely "Heb je zin" series is presented in a very clear Dutch. Having fun while learning a new language is both important and very inspiring. I think you have inspired many of us to speak and write in Dutch. My opinion is No. Here's why, I have watched Heb Je Zin Seasons 1,2,3 for two times already. Excellent videos to help with learning Dutch. You can't find such high quality and structured videos anywhere else on KZbin/in the world. I doubt that such videos in other languages exist. It is also good as lesson material for the Dutch Summer School (I joined level 3 before) I tried learning French but haven't found any materials that are as clear/as easy to follow as Heb Je Zin. I just realised how great it is that I am able to learn Dutch from your channel from Day One. On the other hand, I think that the difficulty should be much increased. I am at the level in which I can already understand some native Dutch videos, so I think you also need to consider if the videos are going to be as simple. But... if you make videos with a higher difficulty, your target audience will be much smaller (or even zero because people who are on this level can just watch native Dutch videos on KZbin). As much as I love Heb Je Zin, from a practical point of view, I think you shouldn't continue. Or... perhaps make something else! Maybe vlogs, street interviews. These videos can help people learn how native Dutch speaks. In Heb Je Zin, your voice is perfect, which is easy to understand, but not applicable in real-life situations. For someone like me who understands everything in Heb Je Zin, I still understand nothing when I speak with a Dutchman on the street.

'Heb je zin' is the next step after finishing the 1000 words, it is a natural continuation of the courses in your channel, i enjoy watching them and i learn many things from them, i try to use your channel as a tool for acquiring the language and not by learning it, so by listening and repeating videos again and again .. rather than the classical way through learning Grammar which i'd prefer not use mostly for Dutch language, Other points those free resources are very important for us as beginners, also i came across one episode in which you mentioned the podcast, but unfortunately it was abandoned also in addition to the flashcards, so it is worth mentioning that these kind of resources are very important and make learning efficient, fast and funny please consider your all followers and not only the rich ones :D

Anyway, you really must get to the end of the drama, I'm all agog and I appreciate all the work that goes into producing them! If you are going to drop anything get rid of the interview ones.

That's too cool and too fascinating. Nl is famous for good tax conditions for foreign talent and foreign business, and i never understood why, but this clears things up!

Hi, Bart! I just wanted to pop by to say that I think you should continue making "Heb je zin." I followed the episodes as you released them (and I've actually rewatched them all) and found it helpful for learning Dutch vocabulary and grammar. Also, I've become a bit attached to the characters-- I'm curious to see what's in store for Xing, Marieke, Gianluca, and Martin! :)

Please continue doing Heb je zin! It's entertaining and, as you say, educational. I've learnt a lot from the videos as they show every-day conversations and the vocabulary needed for them, and I find this really helpful. A small suggestion for improvement (and a possible reason why the recent episodes are not attracting as many viewers): the vocabulary to do with mortgages will not be relevant to the majority of learners I think. It's way down the list of situations I'm likely to find myself in when I'm only just starting to learn Dutch. Perhaps future episodes could be adapted to better suit learners who visit the Netherlands only occasionally or have only just arrived to live there. I also really like your videos on customs and traditions, eg how birthdays and Sinterklaas are celebrated. It's a great way to get to know Dutch culture. Perhaps these lessons could be incorporated into the Heb je zin stories? I will definitely carry on watching Heb je zin - I must know if Martin and Marieke are going to get together after all! You are doing a great job, Bart. Like you, I've learnt a number of languages and tried many different language courses doing so, and yours is one of the best (definitely the best for learning Dutch!). Keep up the good work, and heel hartstikke bedankt!

I just want to add that I totally agree with the comment of Helen Mathews regarding the combination of written and oral content and how valuable it is for us, students :)

Yes continue with this. As of now it is my only way to learn Dutch. There are no schools here in my town in sweden were I can study the language and I have no dutch friends living in sweden.

Please continue. Ik vind 'heb je zin' veel beter dan de inverview videos. Het is leuk om een verhaal to volgen en ook leren grammatica en vocabulaire.

In response to your query as to whether it is worth continuing with these videos: Yes, please. I don't watch as many of them or as often as I did when I started learning Dutch (and when I took your course). However, I recommend them to others as being one of the few sources that helps professional adults learn new words in an context that is relevant and interesting. Coincidentally, I watched this episode about mortgages before I received your email, precisely because the film uses the new words in a realistic context.

Yes, please continue. They are very helpful as well as entertaining. I haven't watched all of them but videos on what to do/whom to call in an emergency, and needing a plumber and or electrician would be helpful.
