Using Text Commands in Scripts - Creating A Custom Script

In this video we are going to dive into the topic of text commands and scripts in Fusion 360. There is a ton of functionality in Fusion 360 that can be done through the Application Program Interface, and in this video we learn that you don't need to be a programmer to make something work.
We are going to expose the Sketch.GeomInfo and Sketch.ShowUnderconstrained text commands in Fusion 360. Then we will create custom Scripts and edit the sample script to show underconstrained sketch geometry and show additional sketch info. Then we will "hack" the sample Add-in so we can attach our script to a button on the toolbar.
No Python experience needed!

Great video! I have seen a lot (maybe all) the tutorials from autodesk about API. But still i miss a good tutorial with examples of how you should navigate around the API to find the different commands. I might just be slow, but all videos are just almost there. They explain the chart and so on, but would love to have a video where its talken through the whole process while making an add-in. Presenting how you should think while navigating in the API resources

Great suggestion! As soon as I am comfortable with the process a bit more I will make some videos. I can hack my way through some things but I need to build up my python knowledge a bit more.

I just finished recording a 6 part Intro to Fusion API series. Just released the first video and I am hoping to get the rest out soon(tomorrow). The first video is all basic python stuff that is needed to understand API, but the other 5 videos are directly in Fusion api. Hopefully it is helpful!

Glad it was helpful! I have done a good bit with VBA scripts in Solidworks and for MS office products but Python is still new to me other than applying it with some electronics projects in Rpi and M5stack devices. I have some additional ideas, but I am not sure how valuable tutorials for scripts would be. Seems like the people that know it, know it.

Baris, I just released the first video in a new API series and plan to try and get the other 5 videos out in the next day or two. I walk through a handful of basic scripts. Gathering info from a userParameter. Creating a User Parameter. Getting User Input. Using the units manager to deal with unit conversions and ultimately making a script that sets a handful of user parameters for things like Draft, Wall thickness etc. If you are trying to make something specific I would love more info and maybe i can plan to cover it in future videos. I did rush a bit to make an intro to API series so I hope its clear and helpful.

@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign Wow, thank you very much. I don't have something specific in my mind since I am completely new to this part of the Fusion360. But I remember I struggled very much while trying to design geometrically correct bevel gears. There are paid addons but I don't know how good they are. Maybe I can use scripting for that kinds of things. Thanks very much again.

There is a gear script in there an Brian the guy who wrote pretty much all of the API for Fusion and Inventor wrote that. You can edit it and look at how it was done. Might be a good start at least!

Glad it was helpful! Be sure to check out kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJi1faR4d7ujp6c Fusion api updated and when you create an add-in there is some default things that happen. In that video we use/hack that up but its a start to make an add-in.

thanks for the comment. I started doing that on more recent videos. At the time i made this unfortunately I didn't and youtube doesn't let me edit it. I did try to put that info into the vid descriptions so if you come across another video check the description for what is going to happen.
