Remarkable. A true master without a doubt. Thanks for this and as with all of these videos it really brings out the depth of the artist. Love his vision.

The Great Canaletto was so amazing at featuring lots & lots of people, and yet each face is different, & with various expressions & body positions. The characters are all doing something, living almost! My favorite Painter of all time, no matter which period!

Paints of the great Canalleto are like "postcards" or diapositives at his time ! Fabulous. I love...

No matter how many times I look at a Canaletto painting both in reality (Italy/Venice) and on line, I am still filled with total awe and admiration. They are incredible.

Chris, they are just stunningly alluring! Let your eyes focus in on the detail, starting from the foreground, & then something further back, all the way to the background, & you'll notice just how much detail is still depicted, all the way from front to back. Incredible!!! Spent Honeymoon in England, saw some originals in museums! Can stand there, staring for hours, no problem 😳😜

@@dinoalbertini5261 Glad we are not the only ones who can lose themselves in magnificent works of art. My husband and I had to schedule in 4 half days of one holiday at the Doges Palace because we would take so long viewing, wondering, discussing and talking about just a few paintings. The one I would love to see in real life is The Ghent Altar Piece.

Looks like a couple of Bellotto's works got jncluded by mistake. Canaletto's pupil, he had a much more etched look to his works with a colder palette.

Caneletto was the closest thing to landscape photography in the 1700's

Heather, I agree with you his paintings were also used for reconstruction of historical buildings

...Made my living as a photographer for thirty years. If this were photography it would be classified much more as 'environmental' or 'architectural', not landscape. You might get away with referring to it as architectural landscape photography.

Exactly my question - before seeing this video my view of Canaletto, from the few paintings I had seen, was that he was just a very competent recorder of nice views of Venice - but now !!!! Let me get my breath back!
