Guten Abend. I'm 69 and have never had any ability with languages. However, in recent years I have forced myself to the stage where I can hold a simple conversation in Italian. Last month I went to Prague and for the six weeks prior to the trip I crammed Czech and it made Italian seem simple by comparison. However, what I was able to learn made the trip much more enjoyable. I'm going to Mainz near Frankfurt in February so am now concentrating on German and am finding it easy to progress. I have found that dipping into the country's history and geography (and food) also helps,

Being able to assimilate and speak a country's language makes the visit so much more enjoyable. I studied Polish for only 2 months before visiting, I couldn't hold a conversation to save my life, but I could at least read and understand the context of signage, and ask very simple questions if needed just to get around. Some cashier was even surprised that I even knew the difference between "L" and "Ł" lol, that's how little effort some of us Americans put into learning languages and foreign cultures these days.

I used to learn German at primary school and high school, I actually chose German as one of the subjects for my final exams during my graduation at high school (die Abitur). But I have forgot quite a lot since my graduation. So I thought it would be helpful to start learning the language all over again from the basics. And hopefully get to the B1/B2 level in German that I used have years ago. 🙂

as someone who is trying to learn german without a school class, I tried an app called duolingo. as good as that app was at teaching, and as much as I learned from it, I find your videos very easy and a great refresher. im originally English, but im trying to get into the habit of speaking german. even if im not going to ever speak it to some one in person, I do find a lot of people who speak german in games. german to me is a really cool language, and I love singing in german because its just so beautiful to me. not to mention one of my favorite musicals, is originally german. other than that, you've gained a new sub! just bye your first video, im already learning so much. even if I already knew most of this, the understanding between gute, guten, and the different ways of saying bye, have brought me to a better level of understanding german. danke for this video, and auf wiedersehen!

Hi allerseits, bin vorbei gekommen nur zu sagen, dass ich genau mit diesem Video angefangen habe, Deutsch zu lernen. Nun, etwa 4 Jahre später, kann ich ruhig sagen, dass ich mich ganz normal,fließend auf Deutsch ausdrücken kann, kann Filme und Serien auf DE angucken und deutsche Bücher lesen. Natürlich mach ich immer noch ab und zu Fehler, aber man hört nie auf zu lernen. Gebt nie auf! : ) P.s. Ich hab nie in einem deutschsprachigen Land gewohnen. :D
