Thank you for the informative video, Anja. My German friend taught me a funny phrase, which is, "Ich verstehe nur Bahnhof." It literally translates as "I only understand train station" but means "I do not understand other languages".
@LearnGermanwithAnja
@LearnGermanwithAnja 3 жыл бұрын
I would translate it like this: "I don't understand anything!" For Example: You could also say this if you didn't understand anything in class. That's a good one!

I think a couple of these have English equivalents- "Go through the Roof" instead of "vor Wut an die Decke zu gehen" or "Drive me up the walls/Climbing the walls" instead of "die Wände hoch zu gehen" (which is pretty much exactly the same thing, now that I see it).
@danh5934
@danh5934 3 жыл бұрын
Durch die Decke gehen "Go through the Roof" meint im Deutschen etwas wächst oder steigt oder entwickelt sich so gut das es durch die Decke geht also eine Grenze sprengt. Means something raises hirer than the normal Top and it is running ( climbing) up fast to a Top level for example bussiness is running good and scores more as normal.

@@jarcadipane2849 same except i worked at a German deli and had to be mindful 1 other coworker who also spoke German as well as many of the customers. 😂. Was fun when customers would tell me in German what they really thought of the owners, who were really oppressive, slovenly, greedy and unhygenic( American). I stayed as long as i could to try improve things but to no avail. But for a time, besides all that, it was one of the best total career changes. Far less pay but i got to speak German all day, sang at work, fun tasks, customers were awesome. 🇩🇪🇺🇸

I understand that "seit einer Stunde" is dative, but immediately after seit comes the next preposition über, which could be dative OR accusative. In this case, it looks like no motion is still involved, so would probably still be dative. What do you do in cases where there's another preposition INSIDE of a dative or accusative phrase? Funny sayings... I know you can also say "Leck mich mal" as a shortened version of that. Also to say someone is out in the middle of nowhere, you can say "Er ist am Arsch der Welt."
